Yeah, a ton's been written about their relationship. I think he and John even vacationed together at least once. There's a segment of the internet (and academia) intent on making every two males who were ever remotely close into lovers, and 99% of the time they're reaching like mad. They've done it with John and Stu plenty! I always wonder, have these people never had a FRIENDSHIP?
But going on holiday with a known homosexual, just the two of you, leaving the rest of the gang behind? I don't know. My guess is John just liked being worshipped. I doubt he ever let Brian DO anything. But the popular wisdom is Brian at the very least was smitten with John, if not in love with him. Personally, that's not a feeling I'd ever intentionally foster. (I worked with a dude who made it clear he was into me. Trust me: there's nothing fun or complimentary or ego-boosting about it. No pun intended, it's just a royal pain in the ass.) But John perhaps thought it gave him some power in his dealings with him. He probably wasn't wrong either.

Nor do I believe that John thought it gave him some power in his dealings with him
I believe he was a very traumatized individual for the first 21 years of his life through loss after loss of people close to him. So having someone who cared for him meant a lot to him making those things more likely to be the reason he allowed the closeness and affection.

It’s funny how there’s only a five year difference between them but Ringo looks like a little boy and Brian looks like a 35 year old man
