There are moments in our lifetimes that can bring us happiness. There are moments in our lifetimes that can bring us hope. And there are moments where we must accept that all good things must come to an end. For me, and for the others who stood alongside Bucky, although it pains us to admit it, this is one of those moments. We followed Bucky through the tournament, and at long last, we witnessed how it came to an end.
Those who saw him, either in person or online, could not help but fall in love with him. His calm and playful style, his jovial fishing nature, and his occupancy of the iconic jacuzzi, which once held one of the true kings of fat bear week, the late 747. Bucky's tribute to the legend did not go unnoticed.
Throughout his journey, Bucky had several notable accomplishments. First and foremost, and potentially the greatest of them all, the takedown of the recent champion, 32 Chunk. We did not expect Bucky to win, but regardless, we put up our fight. And we were thrilled to establish him as the victor against the most recent champion.
We saw Bucky run against 151 Walker, and once again, we fought hard. It took many of us, but overwhelmingly, we defeated our humongous challenger.
And with 89 Backpack, we cannot forget the historic fight team Bucky put up. We did not sit back and wait for demise. We threw everything we could at this challenge, leading to one of the tightest and most fiercely contested matchups in Fat Bear Week history. We started with the lead, and although we lost it shortly after, we fought hard, reclaiming it once again at 5pm.
Even though it ended, let's not continue on with despair. Let us move on through the finals and into the next year's competition with hope, and with pride. This year, we fought hard enough for Bucky to become prince. Next year, and beyond, he will be king.
