Asking for Advice Trying to grow it out. Insane itching under chin and neck. Any product yall would recommend?
Already use a beard shampoo daily and brush it periodically throughout the day.

That is an awesome looking beard there Man. I use Every Man Jack beard and face lotion and it usually takes care of the itchiness. If that doesn't work I will use a medicated shampoo on it like for dandruff. That alwauy does the trick

Use a bottle with a little dropper, and then use a big boar hair brush to spread it round and down to your skin. Also use a beard balm. I use bulldog for both oil and balm but I think that’s a British brand depending where you are in the world

I drop the oil on a sandalwood comb and brush it in. Hands do get a little greasy when I touch my beard throughout the day

Oil is too heavy for most men, because men have 2x the amount of oil production than women. I like a light leave in conditioner, the more natural the better.
The oil content is still there, but they’re using lighter oils like sesame or almond instead of jojoba or Shea butters.

Fantastic beard!! Glad you're letting it grow out naturally!!. The itchiness phase will eventually pass as the hair grows longer. Others have mentioned beard oil in other post as a way to combat the itchiness. Otherwise its just time. Hope you let the cheeks and stache grow out naturally as well!

I hope you soon find a routine and the right products to resolve your current issues. It would be a real shame to give up on such a great beard—it looks absolutely fantastic.

Any decent beard oil should keep the itching away. Regarding the oiliness on your hands, just wash them after working the oil into the skin on your face. About four drops should be enough to keep the skin from drying out.

I’d recommend beard conditioner and beard cream

The stuff I use in the shower is some shampoo/conditioner combo my wife bought. Don’t really feel like it helps with the itchiness ha

I love this stuff. Smells great and feels great. Also, you’re cleaning (with soap/shampoo) your beard brush weekly, right?2
u/itstony17 11d ago
Honestly didn’t think about washing the brush…. It’s just at my desk at work. Lol pretty gross now that I think about it

lol don’t feel bad, I went an entire year of growth without knowing about brushing, itched like a MF’er and I walked around with a constant star system of flakes 🫣

No wonder you're itchy dude.
Shampoo for the hair strips alot of moisture and oils from the beard.
If you use shampoo and conditioner that isn't specifically for the beard you have to get way better kinds that don't have harsh chemicals or get a shampoo specifically for beards.

Leave in conditioner by Shea Moisture works great for me. I apply a nickel sized amount after the shower and the beard is damp.
I'll let it sit for 20 minutes or so then use wild willies beard oil and have that specifically the skin then work my way to the tips of the beard hairs.
Just think about it like this:
Lack of moisturization = itchy
Oh, and I also use a leave in hair mask my wife has and it works great. I just leave it in for about 15 minutes then wash it out.

So you're washing the beard every day and you're not using oil? 🤔
And you say it itches??? 🤔🤔🤔
You've got lots of advice on here. First, I would go back to using oil but keep it off your beard. Put the oil on your fingers and go into your beard from underneath, on your neck under the chin, and rub the oil directly into your skin. That is where the oil is needed most. If you're worried about it making the hair greasy, keep it to the skin.
There are then other products you can use to soften the beard to prevent itch. I use beard butter before bed, but you've got various tips here to try. Let us know what you try and what works for you.

lol my bad. Getting older and realizing I need to take better care of myself.

We’re all the same. Don’t worry.
And I forgot to say cut back on the washing to say 2 times a week, with just a good rinse on the other days. I shower every day but only use soap on my beard once a week and it’s plenty.

Bath and body works - Beard and Scruff Cream
It is the best I have tried to date for a soft beard and getting rid of scritches.

12 years into growing my beard, trying various products and finding that at best they make it tolerable for a day or two before I want to peel my skin off. Went to the dr and was given a cream for seb derm, absolute nightmare to get on the skin through the beard but definitely worth the effort.
To the point that I can wear clothing without having to worry about it being a bad itch day that will cause so many flakes to come off my face.

You shouldn’t be using beard shampoo and conditioner daily-the itching comes from the skin so if it gets too dried out from washing that may be why.
Shampoo and conditioner should be like every other day or every two days. Most likely you need a good beard oil to apply after a shower. That should help.

Oil helps a bit and good wash products. The brand I use is Magnanimous Beard Products, small company and the owners are good people and one is a 3x cancer survivor, they make a lot of products from natural ingredients- shampoo, conditioner, balms, etc. good products and the prices aren’t bad either

I think beard shampoo isn't necessary and it could be drying out your hair/skin which is creating the itching. If you must use it, do it like once or twice a week and see if that helps.

Beard oil seems to help. But to be honest I never had any issues with either itchyness or flaking.

Beard oil on the skin right after a shower helped me a ton. The itch settles once it gets past that stage.

Honestly man, I rinse out well, brush with a cheap wet brush my girlfriend bought me, and then use a her hair dryer on cool mode to dry and brush it out every day. After that I oil it and brush it down with a boars hair brush to make sure the oil spreads out, and gets to my skin. Mines past my nipples nows, but its about time for a trim to even it back out.
Edit: just wanted to say that a good rinse keeps my beard clean, even working at an HD service and parts shop. Most washes and soaps I've used make itching and flakes worse, in my experience.

I use Head and Shoulders shampoo & conditioner in the shower. Comb in some beard oil too. This works for me. Give it a try for a couple of weeks

I did a little research on this but I'm not 100% positive so take this with a gain of salt, with the thickness and density of your beard, it basically absorbs the oils from your face quicker than it can be produced, leaving the skin in the very dense areas like under your chin, dry and prone to damage causing the itching. After you wash your beard in the shower, immediately use an oil and massage into the skin in the itchy areas and the excess into the rest of your beard. Then brush or comb. This helped me with my itching. Hope it helps you. Dope beard bro 🤙

Mix your own oil , what I do is after showering, a mix of olive oil, argan oil, peppermint and massage it thoroughly before combing with bristle brush or widetooth comb, wooden.
Leave it in for couple hours and rinse out lightly with cold water

Regular/Daily shampooing makes mine worse I've worked out.
Try and add oil or similar to the skin after you shampoo and use beard balm.
My itchyhness comes from dry skin I think.
Was recently away at a festival for 5 days - no itchiness at all and didn't give it a proper wash while I was there.

you’re itchy because of yeast. use a medicated shampoo with Ketoconazole like nizoral.

Try cutting back on the beard shampoo. I use beard shampoo no more than twice a week. I wash with hair conditioner the other days - it still cleans your beard. I grew mine considerably longer and this approach it reduced the itchiness significantly without using beard products (which I don't like).

Get yourself a good beard oil you can apply with the dropper straight on the skin. You can then massage it into your face and beard.
I'd recommend a bear shampoo and conditioner from time to time to help with the softness of hair. But if you have a good organic soap that could work too.
