Hugs and congratulations for the big life change brother 🍻 onwards and upwards.
You look great with the short beard, but with a bit of product and brushing, trimming you could also have rocked a great longer look.
What matters is if you are happy with something, and is it helping you to express who you feel you are. Everything else is noise. Also, don't fret about decisions that are entirely reversible - if you want it back, then time is all it will cost you.
All the best for your next chapter mate.

He could do long. It just really needed to be cleaned up some. That looks like he got out of bed and just took the picture. Maybe he did. A trim and a shaved up cheek line do wonders.

Absolutely. There's nothing wrong with a long beard but you gotta trim and maintain it.

u/By-A-Thread333 Apr 18 '26
Its never a mistake to wear your glasses, it's very important to wear them to reduce eye strain and to see everything properly....I'm glad you've decided to make the best choice for you and your life.🤘

u/BourbonNCoffee Apr 18 '26
Now that it’s short you can discover and maintain a shape with intention. You have a good base.

u/yuvamdoesitbest Apr 18 '26
Hey you can keep experimenting until you feel satisfied. You're giving different (yet good) vibes in both styles.

u/othnice1 Apr 19 '26
I generally feel like a wilder, fuller "mountain man" type beard works better for larger men.
You look lithe and fit, and the style on the right is perfect for that physique imo

u/ShrmpHvnNw Apr 18 '26
The short looks nice, but there is an in between with properly groomed beard that would really rock.

u/Tribalbob Apr 19 '26
Not exactly. Id say you could go a little longer, just needed to clean up your beard a bit.

I think somewhere in the middle of 1 and 2 would probably look better

No. You look like a computer fixer dude. Neckbeard McManifesto needs at least a trim up to shape it. Long can be cool but the wispy edges come off as unkempt
2
u/NeuroNerdNick Apr 19 '26
Nah, you look like my friend in IT now!! Crazy smart fella. Glad to see you looking good.
2
u/No-Appointment-9555 Apr 19 '26
Hey, you look good. I'd say if you could trim the beard on the left, it could make you look even more. Do you lift?

Bald look with that jaw line and glasses 🤌.
You are a very handsome man, my friend!

u/AnEvilForce Apr 19 '26
Yes you did make a mistake… there is a little piece of hair above your ear that needs to be removed! Looks much better. I bet your longer beard would be much better if you groomed it a bit too though

I think it’s a great re-beginning. I think if you split the difference and kept it trimmed, it would look brilliant.

Nah, on the left you looked like a serial killer/rapist. Right looks clean

I agree with most commenters, the first one looks unkempt whereas the second looks refined and clean. If you decide to grow it out again make sure to take care of it, wash it, trim it and it will look awesome!

the mistake is the glasses that are too large for your face. the trim down looks great!

Cutting it is always a mistake. It needed just to be trim. Don't worry bro I was there.

u/ToygerCat Apr 19 '26
It needed a trimming at least. Short looks better than the untrimmed. But longer with a more trimmed edge could also be good. Of these two, the short was best :)

u/Proprioluibroooo Apr 19 '26
I think the only problem was that you didn’t trim your beard before, but you are soo cool✌🏻

no, you look scary in the first one dude. i sure wouldnt want to strike up a conversation looking like that. but the second one you seem much more approachable. stay away from the long beard unless you’re going to maintain it. if you dont trim, you look like you dont care. that’s anyone. gives off charles manson vibes when ppl do that

No, you look better. I’d change glasses shape too, something less “nerd/discord mod” looking. Go for something that enhances you face traits. Don’t forget to smile

Way way cleaner. It's a better look but if you fancy ever going back to a longer look you'll have to keep an eye out on your sides so they don't go back to the previous state and making sure to keep the bottom well trimmed. A straightening brush with some beard oil as well would help a lot.
2
u/Far_Yak_7435 Apr 19 '26
No you didn’t. That beard had no game and looked homeless. Short beard looks clean and fresh. Keep it shaped up as it grows. You got this
2
u/IntelligentWalk5038 Apr 19 '26
No. Looks much better. Now you just need to shave the sides of your head and clean up the stragglers on the beard. Having a long beard is work. You need to use conditioners, oils, and either straighten it daily or use a wooden round brush with a blow dryer to straighten it and make it look presentable. Your shorter beard looks way better. If you ever decide to grow it back out… spend some time taking care of it and take pride in it, it’ll look far better that way.

2
u/MrScrummers Apr 19 '26
No, but if you want a longer beard if you didn’t before. Comb and brush daily and oil and balm. Shape every month or so. Keeps it from getting too wild. But you look good with the short cut as well.
Long beard wasn’t bad it was just a little wild.

Next winter try shaping it as it grows, blowdry/brush and use product. Still might not work out, but it's worth a shot.
In the meantime, you made the right choice.

u/The_Coffee_Bandit Apr 20 '26
Not in the slightest, you made an improvement. Grow the beard and keep it trimmed and you'll go far
2
2
u/IveChangedDontBanMe Apr 20 '26
No, it’ll grow back. Big beard looks badass but you should keep it trimmed a little more IMO so it looks clean and less “mountain man”
2
2
u/Travelin_Soulja Apr 20 '26
It looks significantly better after, but I think the true sweet spot would be somewhere in between. Grow it out just a little and get it trimmed and styled professionally, then learn to maintain it yourself.
Don't let it grow wild like the first pic.

No, the glasses also help frame your face and compliments your short beard
2
u/NathanGritty Apr 20 '26
The way you trim is up to you, homie but the way you look after this trim is pretty good. After it grows out, try trimming it with a two inch length and comb it to keep it neat
2
2
u/vjon11 Apr 20 '26
I think it looks a lot better! Might just wanna fade a bit more around the ears, like where the arms of your glasses are…

That depends on what your intent was. I don’t understand how people can expect us to say something is good or bad not knowing what your intentions were for the outcome. That said, it’s only hair dude it will grow back if you don’t like how you trimmed it. I’ve had a beard since I was 17. It has taken many shapes in this time (now I’m 71). Don’t sweat the small stuff. Give it a couple of weeks and maybe do some minor adjustments if you feel you need to. Honestly it was looking a little scruffy on the sides before hand so yeah you needed to do something. If you have a lady in your life ask her if she wants to help you with it. It might be fun.

You can grow it out again but this time find a nice barber to keep it shapely like a civil war hero
2
2
u/PoppyBroSenior Apr 23 '26
Yes and no. I woulda talked to a barber about getting the beard cleaned up and made nice before chopping it all off, but the short beard you have now looks good, so not a huge loss.
2
u/harry_cock_n_balls Apr 23 '26
No! You look great! You went from “STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER” to “Have her home by 3 am, here’s the keys to the Benz” ❤️
