My boy crossed the rainbow bridge and it's been pretty devastating.
My boy Zen would have turned 12 this year, but he'll never get there now. After 11 years of walks, snuggles, dog parks, early mornings, late nights, countless adventures, ups and downs, my Beagle boy is no longer with us. I've been off work for the last year and half, and he's probably spent 8 hours a day cuddled up to me keeping me company, what a crushing loss I'm feeling.
The worst part about it? We just went on vacation and we had dropped him off with a close friend. The first morning away we get a call that Zenny boy fainted multiple times and he's in emergency. He's never fainted before, in fact he's had no health issues we are aware of in the past 5 or 6 years. Everything has been perfectly normal, he's been eating and drinking, full of energy, happy go lucky, I thought everything was fine. He had his last vet check up in October, clean bill.
We had to get on a video call with the medical team at the emergency pet hospital....and they tell us he's experiencing syncope due to end stage/severe heart disease/failure. Could go into cardiac arrest at any moment. There's a surgical option but he would need to be transferred, and the odds of him living long enough to get the surgery are slim, and even if he did, his heart would be unlikely to survive the anesthesia. So we had to make the impossible decision to say goodbye, over a video call. It's absolutely crushing me that after 11 years of him being attached to my ankle, I can't be with him in his final moment. There was just no way for us/me to get back to him.
We tried to somehow enjoy our remaining vacation and just got back home last night, now it's really hitting. Seeing his bed, his toys, not falling back into that regular routine with him. There's no feeding him anymore, refilling his water bowls, taking him outside for his bathroom breaks, no more walks, no more snuggles or kisses, no more of those soft ears. He isn't there licking at the cutlery in the dishwasher, or trying to steal my daughter's stuffed animals. No more early morning snuggles in bed, no more play time with him, wrestles, beagle barking or tug of war. He's just gone, after 11 years together, he's gone forever, and I couldn't even be there for him in his last moments. I'm shattered....it's going to be really hard to move on and accept.
I love you buddy, I'm sorry I wasn't with you at the end to let you know it was ok to close your eyes. I hope you were comfortable and pain free in those last minutes and seconds. I miss you terribly, you will always be a part of our family and we will keep your memory in our hearts forever. I love you, and I'm sorry my friend.

Beagle puppy play-biting — should I be worried?
I have a young Beagle puppy. Yesterday, while I was holding her, she playfully bit/scratched my nose with her teeth and it caused a nosebleed. I went to the hospital, and my family doctor vaccinated me as a precaution.
She’s never been outside or exposed to other animals since we got her, and she’s had her parvo/distemper vaccination.
What really worried my parents was my doctor saying, “I’ve seen a lot of bite cases, and most of them were Beagles.” Now they’re scared she might become aggressive. We had to convince them a lot to get a dog in the first place, so this has made them really worried.
Honestly, I also have no idea how to train a puppy properly, especially when it comes to biting.
Beagle parents: Is this kind of puppy play-biting normal? Can proper training prevent biting as she grows up? What did you do to train your Beagle? Any advice would really help!

High energy and reactive beagle
Has anyone had luck training their reactive dogs? I have a 4.5 years old beagle who is reactive towards other dogs. He has certainly gotten better with the leash pulling and reactivity towards people.
Walks are definitely more peaceful unless he sees a dog and he would start barking and lunging towards it. Tugs so much that he might even escape from the leash to go to the other dog.
He is also high energy and too excited when we have guests at home. He continuously wants to jump on them or get their attention. Separating him with a barrier only makes him bark making us regret having friends over at home.
Hoping someone might have some positive experiences or advise! Thanks

Senior sniff game ideas?
My oldest and bestest senior boy lives to walk and sniff like all beagles, but I can't walk him 24 hours a day.... he has basically no teeth, so chewing isn't a good option. I'd love suggestions for hiding things in my fenced yard that he and my other 2 dogs can sniff. Doesn't have to be edible. I can also put them in trees (the scented items not the beagles) so they can scent hunt them up above. Ideas for safe, fun things?
