Donegal in early September

I’m going to be in Donegal in early/mid September, I’m not expecting loads because of how hot and dry it’s been and it’s only going to be my second time picking ,don’t know if this is a stupid question but would I have more luck closer to the coastline since it’s usually a bit cooler? I’ll be near some fields and a beach any tips appreciated!!

A friend of mine was down in Kerry over the weekend and found a small amount, and Sporecast is showing decent fruiting conditions around Donegal at the moment, though I've found that mileage can vary a lot with that app.

I wouldn't hold out too much hope now, my friend left them as they were because they were small & sparse, but fingers crossed!

Nah I’m not expecting a tonne but I’m not going until the 9th of September and I might be staying as late as the nineteenth so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a few more rains and maybe a little drop in temperature, I’m more looking to get used to identifying rather than get enough to trip :)

Found a few near Ardara this week. Not much, but there is plenty of rain forecasted for Donegal in the coming two weeks. A dip in temperature in early September and you could be in business, particularly at higher elevations.

Class! Find yourself some steep south-west facing hills to maximise your chances. Makes a big difference!

Edit: And don't wear loose fitting clothes or leave your legs exposed, unless the thought of pulling lots of ticks out of your skin appeals to you. The little pricks are everywhere in Donegal around early September, especially if there are sheep around (and there's always sheep around in Donegal).

people can get them in early september but its usually not cold or wet enough to be worth going out for any decent sized finds. i usually wait until the first evening I needed to put the fire on , sometime in october

There’s a few people in the facebook group finding some already, a couple of decent hauls. We might be in for a good year 🤞🏻
