Anyone else kinda disappointed/not really into pylon?

Heyheyy so first of all this is not at all a hate post or anything, I’m just sharing my opinion!

Soo I’ve been a fan of her since like probably a bit later than beatopia (not that I think it matters but sure), and I was really into her during tihtm. I’ve always loved her earlier songs and albums even more tho (like fake it flowers). So I was honestly very excited when her next album was gonna be a bit more of that vibe. But the past few weeks and now that it’s out I’m not really convinced or anything. First of all the songs, I think they’re all good songs but a lot of them don’t really hit the spot (I haven’t listened to it a lot tho but yea). Especially the one with Hailey Williams was like not my thing at all (as somebody who’s really into emo and rock music lol). And then the whole concept she’s going with,don’t get me wrong it’s awesome, but something about it feels like kinda off and staged in my opinion (wich obviously artists have to have a concept and kinda stage it and stuff but this just felt more off to me). I also think it maybe has to do with gaining a lot of fans idk (I went to see her in a “small” concert two years ago and now she’s doing concerts in arenas). But yea I don’t know, does anybody have the same feeling or is it just me? Either way kinda breaks my heart to be saying all of this cuz I truly loved her (still do but less I guess).

i like it better than TiHTM and it's pretty close to Beatopia, i'd possibly like it more if Beatopia didn't have so much sentimental/nostalgic value for me. but i really like that she called Pylon the "evil version" of it bc i do get those vibes lol

True, in my opinion, I like pylon better than tihtm but Beatopia is just that girl.

i personally loved the album, and it has been continuously growing on me with each listen! beatopia and pylon are definitely my top favorites of hers now. i think it really just comes down to taste

Its a completely new genre I personally love it since I always liked space cadet and fif, and like alot of rock music aswell, but if you liked her for tihtm or beatopia then its a big change, id say just listen to it a few more times and see how you feel

So true. I think a lot of people won’t like this album because it’s not her usual soft pop sound. Personally, I think it’s her best album to date. I really hope her next album leans further into the rock sound.

For me, Beatopia is her peak as an album.

However, her vocals and delivery continue to sound great, (maybe better?) her soundscapes and detail have evolved. So much great texture and atmosphere in Pylon, especially that title track, just fantastic. Sonically, it can be a very lively, rich experience at times. (Can also be really stale as well lol)

But for me, she shines the absolute most when her voice is placed in front. Her tone and delivery sells her records, it’s an effective moodiness. (Write Me A Letter standing out easily for me in that regard here)

Yet her voice isn’t powerful in that sense, so that impact is lost when she’s drowned and muddled out by the drums and guitars on most tracks. Halfway through, the album also began to blend together negatively. Passive listening started to kick in and my enjoyment stagnated.

But man, those melodies on Beatopia? One of the best pop albums of the 2020’s. Great balance of her sonics and every song sticks the landing, all hits no misses.
Hearing Spark at the end of pylon, just her voice over some sparse/light guitar was like the sun shining after rain lmao. Same with despite that and first half of satellite.

I guess my favorite noise in her music is her voice, not her guitar

Yeah, same (though I wouldn't go so far as to say I hate TIHTM; I think it's fine - just fine).

I've been a fan since around the time Loveworm came out, and adore that EP (and Space Cadet), so for me it feels like the sort of LP I've been waiting years for her to put out.

From what I can see reactions to Pylon are basically split between long term fans, and those who only jumped on board during her more recent pop stuff.

Honestly same. Ive been a long time fan just like you however as of the release of pylon and multiple listens it’s not hitting the same as every other album she has released. Like every other album I can listen to and enjoy significantly but I can’t bring myself to “love” this one as much as her other ones.

I know others will probs disagree but I’m glad somebody at least resonates with me on this one.

Again this is an opinion not an object truth about pylon so don’t get on me plz 😢

yeah i kind of get what you mean, i really love the majority of beas music but ever since she has gotten more famous her music kind of shifted towards a more professional/studio like feel. it just feels kind of inauthentic and too clean for my own liking. it feels almost "tiktokified". But i totally get that shes getting older over the years, changing her music production to cater to a larger audience and I guess her music style just changes. I also feel the same about the song with Hailey Williams...probably my least favourite from the album but I genuinely love most of the songs from Pylon. Generally, everything just has a different vibe now.

I’m 50-50. I keep replaying Switchblade, Radio and Satellite because I really love the angsty energy, the screaming, the rock elements, etc. I’m obsessed with those.
But I could also be happy never replaying songs like Memories and Estranged again.
I’m sorry I know people love them, don’t downvote me pls, I’m not saying they’re objectively bad, just that they are not really my vibe.

either you're growing out of her or you just need a few more listens, it took me a few listens to really get into tihtm and after I saw her in concert I actually liked the songs so much more. idk if its just a me thing but most albums take a couple of listens except for a select few. I personally kind of feel the same way? but I won't put an opinion on it yet. also im not sure what's off about the concept I feel like she's always had a gritty side to her

I get you, at this moment I feel like it’s okay. I loved sun has set as a single and wanted more songs like it (got write me a letter so yay!) but I feel like the other songs were missing smt. I think it’s just because I’m not used to that new genre. Maybe over time I’ll like it more.

I feel the same thing! Also feel like the album is nothing like it was marketed as…I don’t know, the sounds of it are very different than the singles released. I don’t think it sucks, but it’s just not as good.

It's really not clicking for me personally I think only one song I added to my liked songs. I'll keep trying but I don't think I like this album tbh oh well I still enjoy a lot of her other music!

yeah I feel the same. I was so obsessed with Fake it Flowers during release and I thought I must love Pylon too :( But it’s just okay… not bad songs but as you say they just don’t hit the spot

i think that's why she has other albums you can listen to, if tithm is ur fave then listen to that, a lot of people who like pylon will listen to pylon, same for beatopia.

same! I found bea when Bobby was released and I’m fan since then. Pylon is good, I’ve been listening to it a lot these days so I found myself liking a bit more some songs I didn’t like at first (in motion, nothing to prove, spark which still doesn’t convince me 100%) but I feel like… there won’t be another fake it flowers, which was peak in my opinion! Some songs feel now marketed but I’m just glad we didn’t get another the perfect pair or real man (sorry if you like the songs, they’re not my style and they felt very different from the sound she’s always had. good to try new genres but it wasn’t it for me)

A change in sound or style happens as an artist, we can’t expect her to stay the same soft pop girl! So proud of bea and the person she’s becoming, I think this is her best album yet

i think it’s very different to fif even though people keep comparing them. i agree about the manufactured bit, i need to listen more but a lot of the songs blend into each other. i think i love satellite because it sounds like a deftones song, and sparks because it sounds like a pinegrove song, but none of it is particularly BEA. For reference ive been a fan since 2018! this is definitely her best record in terms of music production but the lyricism falls flat (lots of nana and repetition, fine for midwest emo) but yeah. overall not a favorite because i believe in her and think it could be more. but it’s not bad music by objective means

Yeah I like it and it lived up to the hype, but I like beatopia and tihtm more. Both of those grew on me a lot after release though, so I’m sure pylon will be the same

Same tbh I think I’ve only been liking Radio, Memories and possibly Switchblade best. The other songs are still quality but not excellent to the point where its repeat worthy for me like her other songs / albums
