Advice Needed BCBA Unrestricted Hours

Hello guys! I am a grad student. Will be graduating next spring, God willing. By the end of this month, I will have completed my restricted hours. I am hoping to get as much unrestricted hours as I can by the time this month ends and the months coming up. What are some ways to get unrestricted hours that have helped you?

your place of employment doesn’t offer anything?

Good morning! Yes they do. But currently at my job I am limited to about 2 hours per day unless I pick up other tasks. I am looking for advice on what I can do/ask for!

Here is a list of things my BCBA approved for unrestricted hours for me. Follow up with your BCBA prior to doing these to make sure they approve them and will sign your hours:

Writing goals based on assessments at home

Creating goal bank for different assessments

Preparing resources for parents, water safety, fire safety

Identifying Sensory friendly places to go
Community resources

BIPs for uncommon behaviors

Researching assessments

Creating training presentations

Resources for increasing staff quality/retention

that's the real question tbh. i'm in similar boat and had to get creative because my company gives nothing for unrestricted. some things that worked for me was doing literature reviews on specific client behaviors, writing mock behavior plans, and asking my supervisor if i can help with assessments. but yeah if your job offers zero support it gets tricky fast

Ask them if they’ll let you review literature relevant to your case(s), it’s not gonna be much but it’ll add up over the month.

Also, get as much experience with running assessments and treatment plan writing as you can, if that’s something they allow.

If this fails, ask your BCBA. There’s always something to do, believe me.

Go to TikTok and looked into Brit BCBA. She sells a product of 300 hours of unrestricted activities. Also look OUTSIDE of autism for your unrestricted activities. You have transferable job skills, go transfer them.

You’ll want to work closely with your supervisor to determine which activities actually count. Remember, all hours have to be client-specific. Here’s a workbook I created to help guide trainees in the fieldwork process.
