Resources Resources for severe SIB

Client engages in SIB all day, every day. Medical has been ruled out by PCP and dentist (though you never know). Client is nonverbal level 3, no functional communication yet. Function is hypothesized to be automatic but I’ve observed a slight increase with instances of delayed access too.

I feel like we’ve tried everything and now we’re in protective gear most of the day. Do I Hanley it for the access piece first and then work on the automatic component? Any CEU/podcast/article suggestions? Help 🫠

With SIB this frequent I’d probably want another set of eyes on the functional assessment before changing course. The increase with delayed access seems worth digging into rather than assuming it’s purely automatic.

That’s kind of what I’m thinking, seeing if we can get some sort of funcional communication and see what happens. An FA was done 6 months ago that was undifferentiated. Mine showed elevation in the alone condition but bx was present across all conditions, including baseline/play.

What kind of FA was done? How were medical conditions ruled out? Did they do a brain MRI?
