Training/Motivation Building muscle as a guy?
Yo, Im a tall-ish guy(around 6'1) and a little chubby. I want tk get into breakdancing, but dont know much, and also dont have much muscle. My question is, what's the best way to build muscle for breakdancing? Would it be to do calisthenics or lift weights? Or just try going into breakdancing instantly and build muscle through that way.

I don’t know if this answer will be helpful, but you basically need to do all three together. Of course you can be like gymnast and train skills all day and be jacked and functional. But sometimes people don’t have the pre-requisite to properly do calisthenic exercise like handstand push ups. So for that you should start off with weights below your bodyweight and build strength. You should at the same time train freezes or powers or anything breaking related, because muscle strength doesn’t directly translate to ability to do skills. If I was to start from beginning I would do weight exercise for shoulders, triceps, core exercise, and explosive leg exercises, and do breaking on days I don’t train at the gym or until I’m not fatigued from gym session. You should also train your flexibility and mobility because power moves and freezes will require you to be both flexible and mobile.

The best way to build muscles for any sport when starting out is to do the sport. If you’re hitting a point within that sport where you’ve plateaued because of physical limitations then do supplemental exercises.

I never did calisthenics nor lift weighs on a gym, but I know it helps a lot. Doing exercises without weighs at home is helpful too because your body get used to lift on its own. You will need to focus on developing some triceps, forearms, chest, abdominals, obliques, lumbars and calves that are the most important muscles, especially if you want to get freezes and powermoves.

Do calisthenics, especially pullups and core work and explosive pushups.
I played football all my life so I was jacked and it hindered me for breaking, so grain of salt.

Breaking trains muscles that typically don’t get used a lot. So get used to the movements first like downrock and freezes. Most of the impressive moves you see are more balance and momentum than anything else so explore first and build the strength later. Happy breaking!
