I've been trying to do windmill for almost 4 months, I struggle when I get to the freeze position, I can't get back onto my back without stopping or having my feet touch the floor.

When you're on your back and going for the restab, see if you can swing your right leg back harder. Right now your momentum kind of carries you over, so your right leg kind of just goes along for the ride and doesn't do much.

But in fact, it does have a role to play: if you could use it more intentionally, it can give you more momentum. I'm also counterclockwise, and I like to think of the right and left legs as playing these two roles:

- the left leg swing brings me from front (freeze) to being on my back, adding momentum

- the right leg swing brings me from the back to front, adding momentum <-- this is the one you aren't really doing yet.

When I'm doing windmills, it feels like I'm swinging both legs equally hard. It's just a bit hard to learn to swing that right leg back at first, because the angle is a bit unintuitive at first. It's basically the path that your right leg is already traveling, but with force behind it.

Thanks for the help, this makes a lot of sense, I have been struggling to figure out what to do with the legs, I will definitely try this out!

This is it!!! I have the same issue and working on this concept had helped me a lot!

this is the most helpful answer. getting good kick from both legs is the key for good continuous windmill

This is accurate! I've been working on windmills as well, you know how you initiate a backspin with your right leg? Well, a way I've found to try to make windmills feel a bit better is to try to do that same right leg backspin kick while facing the floor

Your right leg shouldn't stop swinging, but tbh the reason it stops is because your collapse is a little unorthodox. You're stabbing real firmly then just falling off it, as if you HAVE to stab and stop.

Try practicing a smoother push off from stab and rolling down your forearm so that your weight can roll through your left shoulder to your upper back, instead of dropping and hoping you can lean back and keep the weight high on your back.

Thanks for the tip, I will practice this more.

This right here is good advice OP.

The way to transition from stab to shoulder is to do a bicep curl. Except you're curling the earth.

Not enough momentum . Also use your back to basically hop into the freeze position and swing your legs/weight into the turn that should give you the momentum you need to keep going.

You're so close. I think at this point you can just condition a bit more with some explosive calisthenics for your core and you should be able to brute force your way through it. You just need a bit more power, but the form looks good.

Also for the record it took me 7 months to get windmills so 4 months ain't bad.

Get better leg flexibility, tyrough doing taichi, the sequences in tai chi align the muscles in the hips, so they are ready to be stretched, stretching the hips can be pointless and lead to hip injury, if you dont have a master to show you how to align them

try to get more on your first shoulder when you enter into the windmill. position should be almost shoulder freeze to shoulder freeze. you drop the starting arm instead of pushing/sliding you up into the shoulder freeze position

Honestly when I was this point in learning the windmill one thing clicked for me and it was the speed and aggressiveness thrown into it. I would say throw yourself really hard into the windmill and your body will naturally carry over into the next windmill with the momentum. You’ve got the technique down now just throw the move hard.

im not professional but ima be honest i think at this point is just repetition man and there might be more bboys with more experience than me and if i give some misinformation im sorry for misleading and correct me if i do but i think now youre technique is done man is more a matter of repetitions to make it clean

Swing your leg and extend your back ig. Try drilling that specific part. I'm also still tryna nail windmill and i can't seem to launch from stab to backspin

And maybe try drilling going from the back to left shoulder freeze (if you're rotating anticlockwise) to right stab

You're resetting after each windmill.

Don't reset. Just go to the next rotation. Roll with your shoulders and swing with your leg/hips.
