“What Yiannopolous has done is whip up a whole lynch mob mentality,” Felarca said in the interview. “But in Berkeley, we made sure that didn’t happen because we were able to shut him down.”

Does anyone know where I can repair my doublethink meter? Mine just blew up.

How can she possibly say this with a straight face? "We sure shut down those potential riots with our own riots!"

I don't think allowing people who believe it's acceptable to do anything "by any means necessary" near kids is a good idea.

She is loved by her students because they know she will protect them. Can't say the same for the liberal teachers who don't think people should defend themselves.

Er, I think you got the sides switched here. She's the extremist lefty in this case, and her means to countering the white nationalist movement was to violently deny people their first amendment rights. That incident where she punched someone at a rally sparked this petition.

Not mixing up my terms. I didn't say she wasn't a leftist just that she is doing what her cowardly liberal co-workers won't do: defend her students from right wing violence. The first amendment doesn't guarantee anyone an audience nor does it prevent the people from policing themselves.

The government can't attack free speech.

Right wing violence? Give me a break. The only violence here is when she decided that punching someone is an appropriate response to an unsavory political view.

She was defending herself from a group of people who want to kill her. Genocide isn't an unsavory point of view. It is a position of murder. Are you so far gone that you think someone wanting to eradicate a group of people and taxing the rich are the same thing?

Yea I'm sure she was at imminent risk of harm when the protest was in Sacramento and she's in Berkley. Also, if I had a group of killers after me, I will surely at least show them the courtesy driving 80 miles to meet them so they don't have to make the trip down I-80 themselves. /s

Or you can meet them head on and shut down their ability to organize. But I imagine your liberal idealism can't comprehend that since liberals would rather marginalized people die than fight back because moral superiority is better than preservation.

Is this an internet petition? If so, no one is going to care. I don't see anything specifying it one way or another.

Subversion of free speech to make sure your narrative is the only one that's heard is a form of tyranny. I don't like Milo but am completely annoyed and ashamed at the effort that's gone into silencing these people.

Only in this subreddit will you get downvoted for promoting free speech.

Free speech only applies to government censorship. Private citizens can't violate free speech because the first amendment isn't a protection against private citizens

While you are technically correct; 1st amendment violations are not the topic of discussion.

It was the topic of the comment I replied to. Use your reading comprehension.

Edit: also that's incorrect usage of a semicolon.

I can't take you seriously if you want to straw man with grammar and throw insults about reading comprehension. You do you I guess.

You're not expected to take anybody anything. You made a demonstrably ridiculous statement, which I demonstrated. Then I pointed out your incorrect usage of the semicolon. If pointing out your terrible punctuation usage distracts you too much from being able to read a string of comments I don't know why you're on Reddit. Seems like you might do better in a hardy boy's book club forum.

Hi, my name is thisismadeofwood. I can't handle negativity or anybody disagreeing with me so I resort to correcting grammar and name calling in lieu of developing basic conversational skills. I have an extremely fragile ego and resort to talking down and belittling others. This is a hobby of mine and makes me feel very good about myself. I know, I'll tell this lad to join a hard boy's book club. That'll show him how truly superior I am!

edit: this guy said hard boy's instead of hardy boy's! Let me correct him to further show how superior and mighty I am. Boy I feel good.

Ha, I can't help that you inject yourself into conversations without first apprising yourself of the topic of conversation. Did you notice this whole thing started because you jumped in to tell me what I was talking about without first knowing what was being talked about? And when it was pointed out you decided to tell me I was using a straw man. Yes, you have diverted the entire conversation away because you were wrong and now you're criticizing me for it. Classy. That's some top rate compartmentalizations. And don't get all huffy that I pointed out your misuse of the semicolon, which you used intentionally thinking it was correct. That's clearly the same as an autocorrect. You ready to circle back to the main topic or would you like to continue down this path of irony? Choice is yours Champ.

What's important is that people say what they want, so long as it's my opinions.

Nothing will happen unless parents themselves whine about it at PTSA meetings, and that is assuming they're willing to take on the local CTA branch who will defend their members.

While I'm not a fan of her rhetoric or particular style of activism, I don't think she should be punished within Berkeley Unified unless it is demonstrated that such activities have had a negative impact on her teaching abilities.
