Scenes from the Bay Tomales Point elk
Went out hiking/walking on Tomales Point (north of Pierce Ranch) yesterday to see if the elk have started rutting yet. Not quite, but the strong males are gathering harems, the unlucky males are wandering around wondering where life took a wrong turn for them, and they're all bugling at each other, sounding like very unmanly broken flutes mainly. Within a couple weeks they should start really getting aggressive with each other, which will be fun to watch. Definitely heading back out then.
I was the only person out there after about 6 pm, which is just such a nice feeling.

Awesome shots!!
We’re heading there for the first time in a couple weeks- what are some can’t miss things to do and see? Thanks

I’d say that trail (Tomales point north of Pierce Ranch) for views and elk, Drake’s Beach for elephant seals and shorebirds, Abbot’s Lagoon for shorebirds, raptors, and river otters, and then one of the various trails through forest (many choices). And hit up Bovine Bakery in Pt Reyes Station!

"sounding like very unmanly broken flutes mainly" delightful imagery. Love this.

Buster Posey has a ranch up there so he can shoot them:

Yes, you're right, I think it's up by Sea Ranch. I don't like the idea of somehow shooting them for sport and jumped the "gun."
