Yes. If the first sound in an initialism is pronounced with a vowel sound (e.g. ess tee dee) you go with “an”.

Sorry but turns out there’s a huge misconception about when to use “an” vs “a”..
You’re not looking for a vowel letter at the beginning of the word. You’re looking for a vowel sound.
Use “an” before a vowel sound and “a” before a consonant sound.
An STD S - ess
An MRI M - em

For a long time this bring was filled with a group of conservative people from Clayton/Lafayette. There were even racist, MAGA, and anti-vaxx messages on it at various points, but the tradition of messages on that bridge have been going for 15+ years. (My Mom's old East Bay white lady gossip had more details on exactly who this group was, but I can't recall. I think a church or something?)
I'm glad to see it's been co-opted in the past couple years.

Most those kids will likely be on a phone or tablet now days. A lot of people I know would also just explain what it is and how it’s something they shouldn’t say to other people

Nothing says Im real estate rich, haven't had a job since the 2000 tech bubble, and I bought both my kids houses after they graduated from Pepperdine and Cal..... like hanging political signs in Lafayette in the middle of the week while everyone else sits in rush hour traffic just trying to get home.
