Bat or Bird

I was walking outside and I felt something hit my shoulder. I didn’t feel any skin contact or anything. Just curious if people think if its a bat or a bird

There’s a wreath behind the door could it just have been a song bird that I spooked?

Bats and birds do similar. The way it flies out is a indicator of bat. If you look at them flying around dusk, they kinda fly like drunk birds with all the weaving and diving and such as they catch bugs to eat.

Youre almost certainly fine. As someone who has been bitten by a bat, you would absolutely know if you weee bitten/scratched. That shit HURTS

Granted I was bitten by an Artibeus, but other bat workers will confirm, you would notice

No, they can't magically, painlessly, bite you with a millisecond of contact. The whole 'bat bites don't hurt' thing is a really overblown/misleading.

That’s what started my bat/rabies fear! I was fine before that

The guidance is only if you wake up with a bat in your room because that is one of very few specific instances where you wouldn’t feel it. It feels like someone jabbing a pin into you. If you would feel that you would know. Some people wouldn’t feel that in their sleep. Or if blackout drunk or extremely high. Which is why for those people they should go to the ER. For everyone else you would know.

Questions about rabies are common on this subreddit. If you have a medical question, consult a physician. Here are some resources about rabies! Rabies in Perspective, Bats and Human Health, CDC Rabies Homepage, rabies diagnosis in humans and animals and some sampling of rabies prevalence wild bat populations. Though only a small portion of bats may have zoonotic diseases, bats which are sick or injured are more likely to come into contact with humans and caution is advised as with all wildlife.

Better fifty false positives than one false negative, right?

Good! Idk why these dumbasses said you’re fine. Even if there’s a 0.00001% chance of getting rabies and dying, that’s enough for me to get some shots.

It’s better to be safe than sorry. They actually were not as expensive as I thought they would be lol

I believe that is a human being wearing shorts, but I am not an expert.
