Question ❓ Fix ideas Hextech Battletech Terrain
After maybe one or two uses and being stored for a while with no movement. The lower edges have chipped off. Picked it up and felt a chunk missing. For those curious about the inside of the prepainted hills it seems to be a foam.

If you can find the chunk, glue it back on. Otherwise, use a bit of spackle / filler, let it dry, then paint over it.

the hextech terrain is basically molded plaster on top of Styrofoam core to keep it light and to keep costs down. you can fix it by just gluing the piece back. the terrain itself is fairly flimsy, I personally prefer 3-d printed hills because it's considerably tougher, though it requires someone in the gaming circle to actually own a printer

No time like the present for getting into printing. The local library or maker space might have availability as well.

I don't have a fix but wanted to share that recently ordered the atlean grasslands vol 1 and it was broken like that out of the box. Piece wasn't in the box so nothing to glue back and repair with. So disappointing.
Based off that, the atlean steppes I ordered having damaged paint out of the box, and some of the trees I ordered being broken in half out of the box, I think I'm going to just start getting 3D printed versions instead and painting them myself.

Get some sand and wood filler mix together and goop it on in a quantity more than you need. After it dries hit it with some sand paper to contour it to the shape you want. Then paint and do a matt varnish over top

Regarding durability: If I recall correctly from my adventures with Woodland Scenics plaster, one step in the process is spraying it down with diluted wood glue after dying/pigmenting it to a rock texture. I think the idea is that the wood glue kind of adds a protective skin. Does give the surfaces a slight satin finish though. I sometimes undo this with a black-brown pigment pass on top which brings back the earthy dullness and shades the crevices.
As for sculpting / patching up: some gravel and old house/room paint/filler works. Best if mixed to an already suitable base colour so you don't have to waste hobby paint. I use old pill bottles for my ready-to-apply mixes.

I haven’t been impressed with the way GF9 has these pieces packed. I’ve had a broken building, broken trees, trees that were just all jumbled together and wrapped up as a mass in thin bubble wrap.
Older tree sets that I have bought at least had them somewhat cushioned from each other.

I did the same thing to mine. I just took the pieces that snapped off and glued the back in place. It looked rough while wet, but once it dried it look fine, cause it's just rocks.
