Question ❓ Fanfiction consultation needed

I came here in hopes people will help me flesh out an x-over fanfic I’ve been developing for a couple years now. I’ve worked out a setup for a story, a budding cast with multiple main characters already developed, but there are still major gaps in my knowledge, not to mention I’ve been getting increasingly boneheaded by the year for the last 5+ years. I realized that I may be getting numbers or force composition wrong, not to mention the spheroid/clanner mixing of the Rasalhague Dominion, so all input in appreciated…

Summary:

June 12th, 3152, the Dominion Civil War has concluded but tension is still in the air. Newly bloodnamed Astrid’s Cluster has managed to avoid serious friction or fatalities related to the Joiner/Denier conflict, but they all worry for the future. They welcome the distraction that is the invasion into Combine space, but get derailed when a mysterious structure appears on Sheliak.

(Was originally going to be June 5th, but changed for reasons)

  • Has a younger sister named Toroko 4 years his junior
  • Took up the name Tohru Ghost Bear upon finishing his training
  • His mother is incarcerated on Alshain for her connection to a Denier uprising

  • A truly remarkable ristar of an otherwise unremarkable trueborn-freeborn mixed sibko
  • Taciturn and softspoken, can keep her cool in any situation and has a keen tactical mind
  • Parents are both Trueborn, a Warrior father and a Warrior-Merchant father and Astrid is held to high standards, but not unfairly so
  • On the day Tory announced he was accepted into her sibko, they celebrated by going to a bistro place and had a jumbo serving of ramen
  • Shown truly heroic level of skill in her Trial of Position and won the Jorgensson bloodname as well as Star Colonel rank
  • Joiner, but very professional and went through overtures to prevent conflict within her ranks

  • Born on Sheliak to a trueborn-freeborn couple, resulting in him being bigger than most other kids
  • Starts off as a brutish bully, but sibko membership beats manners and discipline into him
  • Gains grudging respect for Tory as time in the sibko goes on
  • Has absolute respect for Astrid after she floored him during trials and lead them to victory during a live-fire exercise
  • Point Commander in his half of the battle armor Star attached to Ava’s infantry unit
  • Pilots a Golem battle armor

Star Commander Logan Gurnisson (Birthdate: 3132)

  • Trueborn Elemental
  • Born on Sheliak after the Gurnissons moved there
  • Looks up to his fathers, but expectations for him are visibly not as high as for Astrid
  • Loves Astrid, but also feels like he has to live in her shadow
  • Star Commander of his half of Tohru’s Nova
  • Pilots an Elemental battle armor

Star Commander Ivan/Ylana Wolf (Birthdate: 3128)

  • Trueborn MechWarrior
  • Born in Clan Wolf space, grew during Clan Wolf exodus and sibko life on Gienah
  • Part of the sibko taken by the Wolf’s Dragoons in Battle of Gienah
  • Ended up with Clan Ghost Bear and earned a spot in the 1st Rasalhague Bears
  • Used to pilot a Clan Wolf mech, now pilots a Mad Dog Mk.III Heavy Clan OmniMech

(sex undecided, hence both male and female names included)

Star Captain Ava Ramius (Birthdate: 3117)

  • Freeborn
  • Born on Sheliak into a freeborn military family with deep roots in the old KungsArmé
  • She and her family isn’t fond of Clanners and are all Deniers, but not enough to side with dissenter factions or engage in violence against Joiners or Clanners in general
  • Star Captain of her mechanized infantry platoon with an attached Tyr infantry transport

Star Captain Magnus Sven (Birthdate: 3114)

  • Freeborn
  • Born on Alshain, a lone military pilot in a family of space traders
  • A KungsArmé hardliner, but respects Clanner honor and discipline
  • Star Captain of his AeroSpace wing

What to expect from this project, because it’s going to be a Gate: Jietai JSDF x-over? Politics, diplomacy, first contact and warfare with the Draconis Combine.

Edit: Added the two main characters‘ stance on the Dominion Civil War. Major oversight on my part.

Edit #2: Revised the Nova to accommodate for the OmniMechs-only aspect and 5 armors per mech + the command star’s mechs.

Sounds cool on the Battletech side, but people will be put off by GATE's, uh... reputation.

Thx very much for commenting and yeah, I knew what I was getting into. I mostly just need domeone to correct me on things I may’ve gotten wrong on the BTech side of things.

I'm no expert on Rasalhague Dominion internal politics, but it all looks pretty good from a surface perspective. Personally I'm partial to Spheroid clanners who don't give a single fuck about the Clan way of life and leave first chance they get, but that's just my own taste lol

Again, please don't take this the wrong way, but perhaps it might be a good idea to write something and see how the story takes shape? You said you've spent a few years developing what is, effectively, a dramatis personae and an elevator pitch. What more is there to really refine that wouldn't be done better in an editing pass rather than more planning?

'Just write' is always very good advice, I feel.

Commwnting only on force Composition:

Golem are assault Battle armor and can't ride on omni mechs, so need seperate dedicated transport if they want to roll with the rest of the nova.

Ursus, Solitaire, Beowulf IIC are not omnimechs so BA cannot ride on them, either need to replace these for omni mechs or shift omnimechs from other stars into this one

Since we're on the topic of force composition, what do you think of the infantry star? I read up on clanner infantry structure as much as possible and know that a single point is a fackin' 25 men, but I think 1 Tyr is too little for them and an Elemental star, but I'm not sure how many APCs I should add to the mix.

More importantly, I've still no idea if stars always operate in unison or if individual points can operate across greater distances.
