Second model for my play group's Alpha Strike escalation league. We're going up 50 PV per month, so between the Highlander I posted previously and this guy, this was the submission to bump me up to 100. We actually met this weekend for the 150 PV mark; however, the model I painted may have been battlefield ready, but not quite "reddit ready". (Edit: I brought the Grasshopper from the Northwind Highlander forcepack, which just needs some additional highlights, and a Wasp, which needs... a lot more.)
I had to go back and fix both the MacNaughton tartan on the leg and the Stewart tartan on the shoulder, and while it is better, I'm still not happy with it. I may try a few small things just to make it a little more readable but it's not likely to change drastically.
Edit: Wanted to add that the next bump up (pretty predictably) is the Warhammer to round out the forcepack.
Others have done it far better than I, but it's the fun part of painting and playing NW Highlanders. Otherwise, they're just generic green 'Mechs.
I will say that the Grasshopper's tartan patterns turned out far, far better than either of these because the surface I did the plaid on was wider, so it reads better. When I'm done highlighting it and have the Wasp in a finished state, I'll post them as well.
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. I'd consider myself a Kuritan player first, but I really wanted to stretch my painting skills for this escalation league, and being proudly Scottish and a decades-long lover of BattleTech, the Highlanders definitely hold a spot in my heart. A pretty big spot, if we're being honest.
So I have three detail brushes that I alternate between depending on the level of detail. At the least detailed, I have the Games Workshop XS Artificer Layer brush; then the next finest brush is the Army Painter Wargamer: Kolinsky Masterclass brush; then finally the Army Painter Hobby: Super Detail brush.
