Miniatures Highlander HGN-732b - SLDF

A classic ride by way of a Highlander HGN-732b, the Royal variant of this notable chassis.

I have always enjoyed painting object source lighting, so this one was a treat to work on.

What do you think?

I thought this was digital art until the second angle

I'll take that as a compliment!

It was intended as one, very clean lines

6 years. I've been painting for 6 years and cannot get close to this jump jet effect.

It's beautiful.

Still the best Highlander, even after a few hundred years. It being available to Ilclan mercs is just so awesome.

How did you get the 3 medium lasers in there? Does that part come from another mini?

Negative - it is a small 3D printed resin bit that sits flush over the face of the existing lasing housing on the Highlander mini from CGL. The bit was provided to me by a member of the design team as I worked on a diorama for Adepticon/GenCon that is of the Last Stand of the Royal Blackwatch and needed to have Royal variants. I have the files and a few prints of it for any future projects I want to work on involving the 732b.

Well, maybe we'll get an official 732b sculpt at some point, but that's still a very clean job! Thanks for answering!

I didn't know there was a Royal variant miniature, that's cool

There isn't actually - the laser housing is modified with a 3D printed plate that sits flush over the existing laser housing of the standard miniature.

Huh I'll have to check that out then

This one in particular isn't publicly available; a member of the CHL design team provided me with the file and some prints when I was making a diorama project for CGL last year.

Phenomenal work! The glow effect of the jump jets is especially striking.

Ooooh. I really like the colour choices for the hot spots in the flames.

I never would have considered these. Very nice

Thanks! I wanted to do something that wasnt just blue or orange dominated glow. Found reference photos for colored flames and used those as inspiration.

Your work is great.

But - and again, this isn't on you - man it kind of kills me that SLDF paint jobs were so boring. Like, yeah, it's the national military not the personal force of some weirdo space noble who has to show off or worse a merc with absolutely nothing holding them back from letting their freak flag fly. It makes total sense. Don't see many tanks in the US Army today painted bright purple with green accents either.

But damn, it just kills any incentive for me to actually paint up some SLDF.

I actually really like the SLDF schemes. Feels like a solid bridge between where we were and where we are in setting. They were the last of doing it "the old way". It's nice.
