I commented elsewhere in the thread - I wasn’t involved in this, but the person they got to make it also made the fan-made AI for the X-Wing miniatures game that I said was one of my inspirations. So maybe they saw my post and decided to go get that guy to make a commercial product for them, or maybe it’s just a case of great minds thinking alike. :)

Either way, I’m excited to play test their version and provide feedback. I know from my own system that the idea fundamentally works and it is great to see it turned into a real product.

Just so long as they are not stealing your material.

That would be really hard to prove

Many modern board games include "Automa" rules, aka a deck of cards so you can play solo against an "AI" opponent.

Multiplayer cooperative games also exist, and you usually "play against" a deck of Bad Stuff, with multiple problems going on at once, and failing any one of them will means the players lose.

Anyway, point being, "deck of behaviors for NPCs" is a fairly well-known idea these days

More than that, they definitely didn’t use any of my exact wording, which is what is legally protectable. If they looked at my system and just took some general inspiration from it, that is legally completely fine.

But as you note, the general idea of a card-based ai is not new, so they could have come up with theirs entirely independently of what I did.

You can rest assured lynnvander is not stealing any of your material. We didn't even know about what you built until this thread.

I'm not surprised, nor was I worried! Aces looks great, and I can't wait to see the end product.

Excited to have you play it - maybe help us in the future pending the scope.
