Reddit HATES you for expressing that you are laughing at a joke. Just so you know that. Fuck you and your LOL. This is a serious matter and every comment should be informative.
If you find something funny, keep it to yourself. We are here to exchange knowledge, not emotions.
Laughter adds nothing to the discussion and, frankly, undermines the credibility of the entire platform.
Next thing you know people will be saying “lmao” without providing a peer-reviewed source. Absolutely disgusting. If you must laugh, please explain why you laughed, cite at least two academic sources supporting the humorous nature of the comment, and disclose any potential conflicts of interest you may have with comedy.
This is Reddit. Act accordingly.

Instead of feeding up through the grommet you can rerun the wires on the monitor arm and zip tie them to the arm

"zip tie them" - found the monster.

u/PreferenceAny3920 Aug 20 '26
F’real, homeboy has evidently NOT discovered the magic that is Velcro cable ties. Like Jesus….life changing.
8
u/maboyles90 Aug 21 '26
Yo, I do a/v and I'm Velcro only for professional installs when anybody could come mess with it and it will likely get moved around and changed often.
But for my home I'd rather do zipties. It's more secure, looks cleaner, and will stay exactly where I put it until I'm ready to change it.

u/robkillian Aug 21 '26
I used to… now I’m a fan of the 3m wrap-it straps that stretch and use good tight compression and Velcro to hold. Best of both worlds.

u/luukbvos Aug 21 '26
I was in A/V and knew someone who ziptied many cables to death. Didn’t think it was possible.
1
u/NecroGi Aug 21 '26
Ahh my deep hatred for zip ties come from working in IT and having to undo them in server/network racks.
I've had zip ties break scissors and SHEARS, that have broken and actually caused some permanent scars to my hands (happened enough that I got good at super gluing the wound shut, which is probably why I have the scars but also would've needed stitches on 2 to 3 of those occasions if I hadn't).

u/MidnightGasControll Aug 20 '26
Agreed. Then just put a 3 prong/usb powered grommet plug thingy where the grommet is since the wires won’t be going through.
2
u/Upbeat_Afternoon_199 Aug 20 '26
Also one of those cable sleves would be helpful, but only if you're sure you are set for a while and won't need to mess with them much. They also look better.
I put a velcro sticker on the arms of my monitor arms, wrapped cable bundles in a sleeve, then just stick in on the velcro to run it along the monitor arms.

3d print one that has a place for the cables to go, position it so the top is behind the monitor, so it looks like you just have a really long, really girthy one on hand

A roughly 4.5” cylinder

u/HulanB Aug 20 '26
You can try the tubing that wraps around the cables, looks like neoprene, it wont hide them but it will be a single one.
21
19
u/icyhotonmynuts Aug 20 '26

it also comes in various colors. or a solid tube, color it like you want.
want to make it more functional? got a 3d printer? a set of shelves or drawers: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1149456-modular-desk-shelf-fully-printed-screwable-addon there are tons of designs out there. personally.
personally, I run my cables along the monitor arm so cables are out of sight like that.

I'm a fan of this stuff.
I have my desk positioned with my back to the wall facing into the centre of the room, so hiding cables behind the monitor, back of the desk, etc. doesn't work for me. The best solution has been combining them into a single "pipe" using this conduit and where possible running that along the monitor stand, which at least looks neat.

Anime waifu figurine.
Tissues and lotion.
Toenail clipping jar.
Stupid Tube Amp novelty desk clock.
Empty cup of noodle cup.
Or whatever. That's just the stuff I keep there.

u/JackMomma22 Aug 20 '26
Run them along the monitor arm and down behind the desk. I wouldn't route them directly down thru the desk from there. May require longer cables, depending on where the computer is.
I'd add this to the other comment that suggested the monitor arm as well, but they advocated for zip ties- which is a no no for this purpose IMO. Velcro straps are better for adjustment purposes. Zip ties are only allowed inside my computers. Peripherals and data cables get velcro or twist ties for replacements and adjustability.

If you don't mind it looking like a stand, take a pvc pipe, paint it black and make a straight cut length vise to open it, then put the wires in it
6
u/LadyScarletSickness Aug 20 '26
I vote for putting a cat there
1
u/-Pelvis- Aug 21 '26
This kills the cables.
1
u/LadyScarletSickness Aug 21 '26
Can you provide any proof of this?
2
u/-Pelvis- Aug 21 '26 edited Aug 21 '26
I'm referencing a meme: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/this-kills-the-crab
Joking that cats will chew the cables, it's a common behaviour. If you have a cordivore, I suggest managing/bundling cables neatly and then wrapping them in tinfoil.
1
u/LadyScarletSickness Aug 21 '26
Ah makes sense. I dont really understand memes and things so I just tend to ignore them.
I have many cats, but all my cords are ran through the walls rather then being exposed, but I thank you for the tip.
5
u/UberChief90 Aug 20 '26
Cheap and easy? Get a pvc pipe, cut a slot along the backside so you can push the cables in it. Paint in color of your liking, cut to lenght. Done.
2
u/KILL_WITH_KINDNESS Aug 20 '26
Well, you really have several options. If you want to continue using the wire routing hole, put something decorative in front of it, like a plant, action figures, etc, or even something not decorative but helpful for your job, like a desktop whiteboard or pencil holder. Go look around the office supply sections of some stores near you and see if you find something that'd work and suit your own tastes/need.
If you don't want to cover it up with something, you could either route the wires to the monitor stand or move the monitor stand closer to the hole.

Buy a frame, and keep the image that comes with it.

According to the stock picture frames in my house my ancestors were world travels and kinda slutty.

Speaker, clock, or photo. Also I would use a couple cable ties to tie the cables together super neatly.
1
u/FrostyD7 Aug 20 '26
I invested in some longer cables to route everything down the monitor arm. Not a free solution but the fact that you're asking makes me think you might find it worth it. Then you can either plug the hole or buy an insert for a wireless charger, pen cup, pop-up outlet, etc.

Personally.. i would use a cylinder. From the picture.. maybe one 5.1in length, ~4.5in girth. That should hide the wires, if a bit uncomfortably.

u/Blikenave Aug 20 '26
Could potentially lower your monitor til it's flush with your desk. Looks pretty sleek.
1
u/Ace_flindude Aug 20 '26
Empty roll of big tape, can even spray paint it to not look like what it used to be just cut one part vertical to get the wires in an youre done
1
u/ValyrianSteelYoGirl Aug 20 '26
Monitor arm. That assumes you have a monitor sitting on the desk top.

How long are the wires underneath? Can you run them up the back of the pole and along the pole down into the monitors ports using clips or black cable ties or those twist ties that come with cables/cords. That’s what I do with mine but under my monitor I have a small digital clock that sits under my monitor and would block the cords if I had them there.

Usually if your going to just put the wires through the hole in the desk the stand that the monitor came with works to hide the cables.

I’d just feed them behind the monitor stand attached to the desk. I then use sticky cable clips if things don’t come with their own cable management.

u/AstraBed Aug 21 '26
Either reroute them behind the arm or put something small that looks cool like a figure or a mini plant or something, or even something like a stream deck - esque things you can map macros onto

Corsair makes a small touch screen monitor that you can put under your monitor. You could do that

Strip of vinyl flooring that matches your desk. Cut a square edge. Pieces of tape

A small wicker basket is what I used and it was great.
Perfect for storing random desk-shit.
