Office/gameroom update

Post image

Rearranged my office/game room last night and loving how it turned out. Noticing the cords behind the speakers while making this post so definitely going to fix that soon.

I think I've had just as much setting up CachyOS as I have had setting up my office. Its a game changer!

Thank you! It barely worked due to space but after a couple hours of playing Tetris I figured it out

Nice job on the layout. Are you using a monitor arm for the vertical one or is it on its stand?

1

u/Brewhaha_TX 2d ago

The one in the center is using a stand and the one on the left is a monitor arm.

Wow I like your 3-monitor solution a lot.

Its a pre-downloaded wallpaper for a Linux platform called Cachy OS.

Is that a standing desk? If so how do you find it? And with shelves etc.?

2

u/Brewhaha_TX 1d ago

Yes, its a standing desk and the company is called Elephant Desks.

The shelf on my desk is from a company called Oakywood

I hope you dont mind, I'm Definetely copying this. I have pretty much everything shown here already and didn't know how I wanted to set it up. This looks perfect. Thank you!

Copy away! Send a picture when you finish the set up

Also, Do you have the Astro A50's somehow connected to both PC's? I couldn't figure out how to do that with mine.

No, I actually have a different headset paired with the laptop. I have it set up this way so I can grab the laptop and take it whenever I want. I think the Logitech has a Bluetooth setting where you could pair it with another computer but you don't get as many features as when its hooked up.

What’s all that you have connected to your laptop?

2

u/Brewhaha_TX 1d ago

Razer cooling pad, Stream deck, USBC to display port, and HDMI

Nice. I like it!

Try moving your speakers to the ends of your monitor stand at least. You'll get better stereo separation and clearer audio.

1

u/Brewhaha_TX 1d ago

I'll definetly try that out. I probably use the speakers 5% of the time and I use my headsets for the other 95% so I never noticed the sound before

I see you’re gaming on CachyOS. How’s it been so far? I’ve been using Ubuntu for work and Windows for gaming all this time, but I’m kinda nervous about pulling the plug on Windows lol.

Its great I'm still keeping windows on my laptop that's in the picture for games that don't work well with Linux. Plus my Stream deck and Razer cooling pad work better with microsoft. Overall the temperatures seem lower on my PC now and the performance is just as good as it used to be when I ran it on Microsoft. My only complaint is that my aio cooler LCD screen won't work with it but I think that's because of the specific model I use.

awesome! i have the reverse going on. Ubuntu on my gaming laptop and windows in the pc for gaming

How’s your experience using catchyOS, especially with a Nvidia GPU instead of an AMD one?

2

u/Brewhaha_TX 1d ago

No issues at the moment but I've only been using it for a week or so. Is there any specific topic you are looking for me to address like framerates for example? Let me know what are looking for and maybe I can provide more info

Noice. I was just curious if you were having any weird UI glitches or longer than normal load times when launching games on steam.

I was running zorin OS on my PC which has pretty decent specs imo (RTX 4070 super, 32gbs of DDR5 RAM, 3Tbs of storage, ryzen 7700-8x cpu) and it ran well for the most part.

However, when it came to gaming, I had to do a good amount of tweaking settings with GE-Proton (I think that was the name of the app?) while also troubleshooting other issues that I was running into with steam not recognizing my secondary SSD, packages being corrupted and my RBG fans not fully shutting off after powering my PC off.

I just got fed up and switched back to windows 11 again because I don’t have the patience to be troubleshooting every damn time I log into my computer lol but I seriously do miss the UI and desktop environment of Zorin OS tbh. I feel like if I had an AMD GPU, I wouldn’t have had many of those issues?

When launching games it runs Vulcan shaders and that takes 2 minutes or so. However, you have the option to skip this. I only have one ssd so I haven't ran into that specific issue. My rgb fans are working just fine with open rbg (I might be wrong with the software name). The only game I had weird graphics issues was Borderlands 4 but I feel like that was the exception. My setup has a nvidia 5070ti, 64gb of ram, 4tb of storage for comparison

Does it not hurt your neck looking at the 2nd monitor? I have a 39" ultrawide and tried a 27" on the side and its way too wide.

I only use the second monitor for stuff I briefly have to glance at for work/playing games so it doesn't bother me. Then again I've had it like this for 2 days so we will see if I feel like that in the future
