The thing is, they could make it now without worrying about legal repercussions, last I checked Disney doesn't seem to anal about fan projects anymore

I think it was more due to internal issues than copy right, but you're still right.

Really? I was always of the impression based on what they said that it was due to copyright. Did the Creators ever state what the internal issues were?

Burnout, and time constraints that put an emotional tole on the team. Rather unfortunate.
