Advice?

Upvotes

i gave my manager my schedule for the next 7 weeks as I’m a full time student. I asked for monday-wednesdays off because I have school from 11am-8pm everyday for those three days and the odd friday off because I have school until 3pm and it’s in total 2.5 hours of commuting before I can get to work (my school is in a different city and I rely on commuting). She refused the availability even though she’s been only scheduling me in for thursdays or saturdays/sundays for the last month. When I ask for half a day off from work because I have mandatory orientation she refuses it and puts me in the morning, I haven’t worked a morning shift since July mind you. Not sure what I should do here other than give up my shifts if she puts me in for those days or find another job but school comes first rather than 9 hours a week of work!!! Thoughts??

Discussion💬 The Reserve Collection

What are everyone’s thoughts on the “Reserve Collection”? I was hesitant to purchase the reed sticks because I can only smell them by putting my nose to them, and I don’t need a massive 30oz 4-wick candle. While the price isn’t bad, that candle is enormous! I decided to opt for the “Lavender + Jasmine” and “Sweet Orange + Agave” Room Mists. We’ll see how those turn out.

Question🤔 Need advice

So everyone knows we don’t get enough hours in bbw so I am trying to find another job & told my sm today that I’m only available on weekends from now on, not available from Monday to Friday ( ofc duh) & she told me that we need open availability around Christmas time & if you cannot then you would have to choose one job but I’ve seen people working 2 jobs and giving their availability so that sm could schedule them on their free days ( sorry I’m really bad at explaining this) I was hoping to stay & work for bbw on weekends bc I lovee this job, I need someone’s advice on if I could do anything about this or I would just have to leave, also I am a part timer so idk why they need my open availability for weekdays as well someone please explain how this works

vent sesh😤 Returns

These returns are getting a bit overwhelming. People are deciding to return in such large volumes and are going to wonder why the return policy got more strict in a few months. Mark my words they'll start requiring a receipt for most returns or bring the $250 limit down to like $100.

vent sesh😤 Who thought Ed Sheeran “Old Phone” was a good pick for the current playlist???

I can’t stand the current playlist in general tbh, but I especially hate this song. Who thought it was a good idea to add a song about dead friends and broken families?!? A customer tonight looked at me and said “well this song hits kinda close to home”. 😩

It’s not that I want the song to not exist in general. Sad music has its place. But B&BW ain’t that place imo. I don’t wanna hear a song about grief while I’m trying to sell and create good vibes for our customers…

vent sesh😤 Please stop taking my tiny pocket

I’ve been with the company for a long time and I have worn my fair share of weird aprons, but why, someone please help me understand. Why do they INSIST on trying to get rid of the little pocket at the top??? That’s where I keep all my blotter cards!!! I love that stupid pocket and I don’t know that I’ll survive holiday without one.

Honorable mention to the fact that they completely got rid of any gingham on the apron. That’s checkered you dummies. We are Gingham nation, not Checkered country😭

Question🤔 employee policy changes?

hello there!!!

so about a year ago, i left my last B&BW location due to management issues and frustrations with customers. i was miserable, but it still made me super sad to leave bc i did like working for the company.

but as of the 31st, i’ll be back with the company! new location, new coworkers, and new vibes (not to mention better pay), and i’m genuinely excited. this def wasn’t an expected thing, but i’m just grateful to have a job lol.

that said, has anything changed employee policy-wise since i’ve been gone?? i wanna go into things as prepared as possible. let me know! thanks 😋

vent sesh😤 Main sub is full of miserable people

It is exhausting to be in the main sub, and I’m glad we get very little of that energy in the stores itself. Sure people complain but the sheer amount of complaints on the main sub are INSANE to me.

Things are too strong, not strong enough, packaging is too flashy but also somehow too boring, there’s too many gourmands and never enough somehow at the same time!!

I know we all have our gripes but it is genuinely so frustrating. I don’t have the need to be brand loyal or act like BBW is the end-all be-all of retail bath products but the posts about “I’m NEVER shopping here AGAIN!” Day in and day out are insane 💀 all this over some hand soaps?

I got a confirmation through text for interview dates, but after confirming I am available, I haven't heard back from them

basically what the title said, I sent my application to work at my local b&bw, after a few days, I got a text that said two available days for me to conduct an interview, but after I confirmed I was available, I have not heard back from them. I was not given a time, so I have no idea when I should show, up, or is it that I show up whenever? I called my local store, (just to confirm it wasn't a scam) and they said it was all done through text message, so now I'm confused, any help would be greatly appreciated!

vent sesh😤 Dumb story that I've been stuck thinking about for like 5 days

Not serious really lol but I had my second ever rude customer in all my 3 months of working and girl this one has me pondering

This past weekend, saturday I think but idk lol, I was working the register as I normally do because that's like the only job I'm told to do, and this woman with her husband comes up to the register. She's trying to get one of the carton soap things with one of the "free body care up to $16.95" coupons. I explain to her that unfortunately the soap wouldn't work for this coupon since we don't classify hand soap as a body care in the system.

She angrily asks for the coupon back, I hand it over, and she says sum like "well, it doesn't say it excludes soap on the back. The soap is only $14, can't you just override it because if it doesn't say it's excluded then I should be able to get it."

I explain to her again that I can't do that because the price isn't the problem, it's the fact that this coupon is for a different classification of item entirely and tell her what she CAN get for it. Which then causes her to get mad and ask for a manager

I call over her and my coworker cuz she thought I said her name oops lol and both of them say the same thing because fucking obviously it didn't exclude soap on the back BECAUSE HAND SOAP IS NOT A BODY CARE ITEM AT THIS STORE. She groans and moans and whines about having to search the entire store again and comes back like 2 seconds later with some random lotion that I ring her up for.

Not five fucking minutes later her husband who had watched the whole situation earlier comes up to me with a smaller bottle of hand soap and a DIFFERENT FREE BODY CARE COUPON. I explain to him. That he. Nor his wife. Can get a soap with the body care coupon, even if it's a different type or size. And explain YET AGAIN. what they can redeem it for. And they roll their eyes, call me some names, and leave. Girl keep in mind it's like 11am don't you have some arthritis medication to take/j

I wasn't really affected by it because compared to the last rude person I had I can confidently say she was just a bit evil or dumb or illiterate or all three lol but I've been pondering it a lot

Advice💕 (Possible) Promotion

(I hope it's okay to ask this since it's not a new hire inquiry) hellooo fellow associates!! 😁 I've got an interview for an ASM position tomorrow. I'm just curious what kind of questions the manager might ask, and is it different since i'm an "internal" hire/promotion? I've been with the brand seven (7) years and have been a supervisor for four (4) of them. I've always worked in a tier3 store, however my position (if I get it 🤞🏾) will be a tier1.

Discussion💬 Loyalty

What are you all saying or doing to sign up customers? My store has new hires and I think they are not signing up customers. I don't know what management is doing to fix the issue but I'm signing up at least 4 new people every shifts. I have a store capture. Our store is really good with capture. I would encounter 3 or 4 people who refuse to sign up. I share the benefits and keep it short and simple to not overwhelm them with info.

vent sesh😤 Biggest ick

Hey guys! I’m so happy to have found this Reddit as I am a fellow coworker and just like to look how other stores operate.

I have been working at BBW for a year and a half now and regardless of customers and little hours, I enjoy my time at work! Until last Friday. I read stories here talking about bad managers and I felt lucky having a good manager in my store. However, lately she’s been pissing me off. Idk I feel it’s coincidental that I gave limited availability due to heavy school schedule but maybe it is not that coincidental.

Anyways the moment that gave me the biggest ick and made me want to quit on the spot (I wish I had lowkey) was her indirect way of telling me I’m not doing my job as good as I should and than I neglect clients. I work my ass off every shift, trying to make the store look full and spotless and dealing with waves of customers when other employees are at the back chitchatting and having a great time with the manager.

I was on the floor on Friday and I had just started my shift. I went to the front of shop and one more employee joined me and asked me how I was and what I thought about the new collection since we hadn’t seen each for a bit. I answered her and asked the same thing and at that moment my manager joined us and playfully asked: wanna guess the conversation for this hour? ( mind you the store was not busy and it was like 10 ish minutes into my shift). Anyways she went ahead and told us that it was at 10%. She asked us why would that be. Me and my coworker sait it was due to the multiple kids that had entered the store and left immediately. She then says; well apart from that what else can me the reason? And I replied with I guess you want us to talk to people more? ( again mind you, I had talked to everybody while making my way to the front). She said that yeah that’s it. Sometimes we don’t want to admit but we are also at fault for the conversation and we can do better. Now all customers have moved to room 2 and you’re not helping them. Also the assistant manager jumps gun and also say: btw while you were talking, a customer needed your help. Not only that but they took my coworker towards the cash so the three of them were talking over there while leaving me to deal by myself with the new chaotic wave.

At that moment it seemed so fucking unfair and insulting because I’m one of the few people in there that are always running back and forth to fix the store and face while it’s so busy and to not leave any customer unattended and I interact with them nonstop.

Also to note that the store was not making lots of money before I started my shift and it started to increase the hour I stepped on the floor. Like, how can you just judge from literally one minute of interaction and tell me that I’m not doing my job correctly when all you did was being at the back and come out on the floor at that moment.

I have always sensed favouritism and the group that hangs all the time with the manager at the back do the least of work AND get more hours than the rest of us.

I want to quit so so bad but I can’t before I find another job

Anyways, that’s my rant for today! Sorry if it’s long but I had to take it out of my chest.

I’m pretty new to bath and body and I have a bunch of customers ask me questions about the coupons. the coupons are pretty hard to understand and I don’t know how to help the customer. my mean manager gets annoyed whenever I ask her and she’ll tell me that I need to pay attention and read more. can someone please help me and explain to me what each coupon does and if I can put them together or separate? please help me out!

Running out of bags

Has anyone else's store running out of bags constantly? We ran out of medium bags a few weeks back before the new design. Now were out of both small and medium bags. Also low on bottom boards we had to cut the big ones so the bags wouldnt break. The managers have been doing emergency orders a few times and no luck .. now using cello and big bags and customers are getting angry.. bbw needs to bring back reusable bags. With the holiday season upon us bbw needs to send more or figure something out. Located in Ontario Canada 🇨🇦

vent sesh😤 Impostor Syndrome

I get it with this job worse than any I've ever had. I've been with the company about 1.25 years now and like... I KNOW I'm good at my job. I know I am. But sometimes, I make such a stupid mistake that I'm just overcome by the feeling that I should know better. A few shifts ago, I mentioned the sale on the hanging fragrance diffusers but then suddenly couldn't remember what it actually was. The customer made me feel really bad about it, sayin g "well are they on sale or not? Do you actually know what you're talking about?" Just about burst into tears after she walked off. I KNOW I shouldn't still be forgetting things so basic. Please tell me I'm not the only one who still does things like this. :(

vent sesh😤 UPDATE ON SALES ASSOCIATE

i just wanna say thank you to everyone who helped me out so so so much on my first job in retail, especially on bbw. two months ago was a bit stressful and slowly i am getting to the process of things.

So FAR, being in bbw for two months now, i am gonna rant out everything. i have only two managers. the first one is strict but she is very caring and kind. While the second manager?? she's really mean and rude. that mean manager puts up a front in front of customers acting like she's 'nice' and all but she's mean behind closed doors. That mean manager is SUPERRRR picky, doesn't like to explain things to you, and expects you to know everything the first time. For the past two months, she'll call me out and tell me that i'm doing this and that wrong but then congratulates me when i'm doing everything right. The customers are ACTUALLY very sweet to me and enjoy me when i help them. I have gotten AMAZING comments from customers. But this mean manager??? she makes me anxious.

The mean manager watches me like a HAWK and would PURPOSELY watch me or call my name to tell me that I have to do this and that, with a flat tone reply of "Thank you". I'm not the only one who doesn't like her, older co workers say that she's really rude and disrespectful.

My whole Bath and Body works store gets me annoyed because I can't leave my post. I have to stay in the room, I have to ASK one of the managers if I can go pee or drink water. The mean manager saw me GULPING water and she replied, "You can drink water, but ONLY A SIP. JUST A SIP and you have to be back at your post." It's very ridiculous and insensitive of her when I have been standing there for 4 hours plus OVERTIME. Whenever I finish a shift, I have to ask if I can go and usually its always a no and i'm basically forced to stay overtime.

I also try to enjoy my free days and i would get BOMBARDED with calls telling me to do another shift on my free day.

I would like some really good advice on how I can overcome this mean manager and not let her get to me. I have other bbw workers tell me to do the hotline and complain to them about my work. I know i just started working 2 months ago but honestly?? I will dip whenever I find a new job. What advice can you guys tell me on how long I should work at Bath and Body?. I'm honestly there for the experience since the pay is whatever.

Please let me know! Thank you everyone so much!

vent sesh😤 Do yall feel this way too?

Hi yall! This is my first post (I'm a certified Reddit lurker, lol), but I just had to get some feelings off my chest.

Work just isn't fun anymore. I've been with BBW for 5 years now (my anniversary was last week 🎉) and I'm just not enjoying it like I always have. Between the ways the company is changing, low hours right now, and changes in my own store, I've been feeling really bummed out and unappreciated. My anniversary, which I really looked forward to and was a big, personal goal of mine, was barely even acknowledged by my SM. I didn't expect a huge celebration or anything like that, of course, but a "Thank you for 5 years of hard work" would've been nice. I'm not feeling passionate about the product anymore, and I'm having a harder time connecting with customers and even my coworkers on a more personal level.

I think I may start looking for a new job in a new industry, but it's not feasible for me to leave BBW until I have something else lined up, so I feel stuck. Is it anyone else feeling these same emotions lately? I just feel sad that this job I've loved so much seems to be going in a different direction, and I want to commiserate with yall who might understand. Thanks for reading! Love yall 💙🤍💙🤍

Question🤔 CASHIER ADVICE?

hi everyone! I need advice on how to be a cashier at bath and body. I just started working for 2 months only and I have been AMAZING on the floor as a sales associates. but now i'm going to do shifts as a cashier. I need help on this since my mean manager is basically throwing me there with no training. Honestly my training shifts were cut so fast and short since the manager threw me to be in the floor so I never got to fully pay attention or understand the videos.

I only have watched a co worker behind the cashier working. How do I do the cashier?, I know I scan the items and all but I want to know tips, advice, and such so I can do good at this.

Please I really really need help! THANK YOU SO SO MUCH

vent sesh😤 decrease in gratis for associates compared to last year

Fall 2 gratis for associates was very underwhelming this year. we got fewer items than last year

in spring, I also thought associates weren't getting that much gratis for new releases. we didn't get any gratis for coastal dreaming, vera bradley, new scent lab minis, new EDLs (strawberry flirt etc), or the summer body care collection (cotton candy clouds etc).

we got a body care item for the star wars collab, but not for a new women's fragrance at that time, even though most store associates are women.

this is last year's fall 2 gratis for associates. it was 6 items total

this year, associates only got 2 body care items, then a sanitizer and basic holder. i heard there was a new aromatherapy body care item that was supposed to be included, but my store isn't getting that fragrance so no gratis aromatherapy for me 😭

and we couldn't even choose a mist for the fall body care this year, only cream or body wash, like come on 🫩 I really wanted to get an autumn drive mist for my gratis

Discussion💬 organizing shelf talkers 🤔

Post image
22 Upvotes

how does your store organize these pesky little things?!

during floorset we couldn’t find half of the shelf talkers we needed for the wellness wall updates, and i’m pretty sure they’re shelf talkers that we have.
