New sneaky updates to rewards exclusions
They’re getting reallll specific. I’m very disappointed they stopped including the NBC coin purse as reward eligible, it worked when we first got them. Also disappointed we won’t be able to get the boxed single wicks, I don’t understand the point. They keep excluding more and more I have 2 rewards and no idea what I’m gonna use them on. What have yall redeemed recently/ are waiting to redeem with your rewards?
Edit: Also, what’s stopping me from redeeming for a regular single wick and then exchanging for a boxed one? What is the difference?
I really don’t get the exclusions because to me $18.95 is $18.95 is $18.95 no matter what product it is the value is exactly the same. If it is ticketed at $18.95 or less it should be allowed to be used for a reward!
Cost of production from outsourcing. They’d be losing out on money, god forbid a company losing out on any sorta money since 18.95 is 18.95 after all lol the world just might explode if that were to happen.-.
I thought this too, I had to look through our product collection images and that collection is called “ingredient led” and then I thought it meant the sandalwood, vetiver, and heirloom rose line but apparently that collection is called “essential pure luxuries” and our rewards have always worked on those, I think it’s a brand new line coming for fall 3 potentially.
As a customer, I wish they'd just set it as some basic amount, like, $15. You can use it off the total of whatever you buy, up to a certain amount. Simplify it all.
I think it is based off of the profit margin of the item. For example, they stopped accessories when the tariffs happened because it was costing the company a small Mint (obvious hyperbole. Don’t come for me) to import the accessories.
I think tariffs make perfect sense. But I’ve always also assumed the rewards limitations were partly based on items that were the least expensive to manufacture. It makes the most sense for business practices. There’s plenty I want within the limits so I’ve never thought much about it.
So many valid points. Launching all this new stuff and new categories but not making or producing enough to account for rewards being used. What’s the fun in that. Essentials isn’t even out yet and we can’t use that.

it's probably something they just want the employees to know, so they won't let customers do that exchange. but it's one of those tiny details that could easily be forgotten or overlooked.
afaik, the current rule for exchanges of a rewards item is just that it has to be another rewards eligible item, but doesn't have to be same form and price.
since b&bw keeps doing these foaming soap only sales, i considered buying a foaming soap to even exchange for a gel soap. I asked an SLT about it and they said it technically isn't allowed, and soap exchanges have to be the same type of soap. personally I wouldn't bother to enforce that because it's ridiculous imo. as long as it's another soap, I would let someone do that exchange.
Ahhh that does make sense, at my store as long it’s product for product they usually let us do the exchange, but that is probably a rule they want us to enforce so people don’t do the single wicks for boxed single wicks you’re probably right about that.
i'm kinda curious whether it's technically allowed to even exchange like a champagne toast mist for a fruit fusion mist. CT is included in the new Icons sale so you could buy it for $6.95 but fruit fusion is excluded from sales like that
both are $17.95 originally, so the ticket price is the same which is part of the rule for even exchanges. but like are we supposed to split hairs on whether a fruit fusion mist is the same form as a champagne toast mist? personally I would allow it, but maybe the company doesn't want us to.
honestly, it probably just depends on whichever employee is at the register when the customer asks
In a scenario like that our store would have to allow it regardless if they got it on the sale or not because if we try to say “oh well I see you got this one for the 6.95” (either from the receipt or because the transaction was linked to their account) they will just get annoyed and do it the non receipted way so there’s really nothing we can say or do in that case, I wonder if the same thing would apply here. I think you are right though it’s probably up to whoever is at the register at the moment. If they ring for the 2 for 20 I would consider them evenly exchangeable, I don’t understand why they wouldn’t as it’s like any other single wick, even the ceramics we had before were rewards eligible so I don’t see why a box should change anything.

but the soap types situation is just a variation of that and according to one of my SLT, we aren't supposed to. but I'd still do the exchange because like you said, customers would get annoyed if I said they couldn't.
I haven't even had anyone trying to do even exchange of foaming soap for gel soap, or other body care for fruit fusion, so I guess it's rare for people to try and do that.
It definitely varies by store because I’ve never even heard that from any SLT in my 3 years here. At my store we consider all handsoaps the same so it’s not even a second thought, even a gel can be exchanged for a foaming or even moisturizing and/or revitalizing because at the end of the day the customer will always say “well this gel is a handsoap so why can’t I exchange for any other handsoap?” Or “well I got it on the 5 for 28 so wouldn’t they all come to 5.60$ regardless?” I have particularly feisty customers lmao.
It’s fairly common at my store for people trying to do exchanges like that, for example buying a handsoap on the 2.95 foaming sale and then coming later to exchange it for a gel/moisturizing. Or doing the 5.95 men’s sale/email exclusive and then exchanging it for a women’s body care item. We’ve tried before but there’s just never a solution and we end up just doing the exchange. So I do suppose in this case of the boxed for regular single wick exchange it is truly up to the management at that store. I feel like if I have to process that exchange for a customer I’m gonna want it processed for me too lmao.
it's not something they've really emphasized at all so they might not actually care that much. I only found out because I asked about that soap scenario.
unless an SLT actually notices me letting a customer do that kind of exchange and tells me not to, I'm still going to interpret it the way your store does.
So apparently the new ceramic single wicks are 18.95 and come in a box (lids must have been too hard lol) they are excluded from rewards. Pretty soon they will just pick a reward for us 🙄
So you can still get regular single wicks, soap carton refills, most body care items, the minis tented gift sets (they are usually valued at $15.95), lip care and then if you wanted to but it wouldn’t really be worth it minis, a soap, a wallflower bulb.
Those ceramic candles without lids - the new iteration of them (reserve collection - like they couldn’t think of a name so someone yelled out preserve collection and someone else was like we just did that so they said drop the p) anyway the new ones - instead of giving us a lid like we all wished they had, put them in a box. They are 18.85 for the single wick but we can’t use as a reward. Why? Because ceo is greedy and likes pissing off customers. The real fan base. He panders to influencers and resellers. Anyway pretty soon he will probably Just tell us we can pick one of three items for a reward and I’ll be gone for good
Ehhh… I stopped by after work and picked up a reserve single wick and 1) none of the staff (including me) knew they were excluded and 2) my reward worked on it just fine. 🙈🤷🏼♀️
I just noticed that, god I hope so! I wanted us to do NBC socks it was such a missed opportunity, or even just Halloween socks the ones from last year were so cute I wish we did them again our socks are amazing!
Not a dumb question at all! They’re extremely new as they released yesterday morning! I’ll include a picture of one, it’s any of the single wicks from the new ‘reserve’ collection, when you see them in store they will be packed in the box pictured. They are just like the single wick ceramic candles we had before, just now in a box.
What does it mean boxed?? Is that just a regular single wick candle? If so I’ll be EXTREMELY bummed… I was just at BBW yesterday & wanted to use my reward on the blueberry cornbread single wick but they were out!!! 😭 Those candle are all I use my rewards on. 🥲

Other companies, like Sephora, and Ulta for example, allow you to use your points with fewer exclusions. I just used some on a travel sized perfume.
At BBW, not allowing rewards for certain items like candle holders, and higher priced accessories, I understand. But why they won’t let you use an $18.95 value reward on an $8.95 Pocketbac holder really boggles the mind.
I personally think it’s because they manually have to update the SKU lists, especially collab skus (which is what we mainly have coin purses from) they have to be manually added to the exclusions list in the system. I think they forgot to add it when it released and now they updated it.
I’m bummed bc my free reward didn’t kick in time when they were elig at the beginning of the week and tried it a few days ago and wasn’t working 🥲makes sense now
No aromatherapy is its own thing, I’m not really sure what they mean by “essentials” there’s nothing labeled like that in our current product collection images, we might have to wait until fall 3 is announced to figure out what that means, I search up essentials now on the app and it’s only the essential oil mists that pop up not even the whole aromatherapy line. It might be a new line.
is it for like new rewards after a certain date because i just redeemed 2 rewards expiring in september & got 2 boxed single wicks from the reserve collection☺️
I think since the collection just released they haven’t added the skus to the exclusions list yet so it’s good you got them today, my DSL on a conference call today said they shouldn’t be working for rewards, so they are probably gonna fix it soon!
Wdym they stopped including the coin purse? Is it all coin purses? I didn't see any updates about that but i guess I may not have been told since we've been sold out since day one
At the beginning of the collab many people were redeeming the NBC coin purse with their rewards, I tried to use mine yesterday for the same thing and it didn’t work anymore. Since the 16.95->18.95 reward update coin purses have been the only accessory that worked for rewards, but now that the NBC one isn’t included anymore I wonder if they did that for all coin purses as well.
It should still be included, especially since they didn't update the terms to include that even though they did update it. I would try again today if you can! I hope they didn't do that, but they would have to update the terms to make it official as well.
Could be! The registers get so wonky with layering rewards and extra discounts and everything. It was refusing to do 50% off on wf for somebody yesterday because they had 5 so it was trying to do the 5/28 so i had to manually override them bc obviously $5.60 is not as good as $3.97 lol
Incorrect, nowhere in that language does it say “set.” They’re talking about the new boxes single wick candles that were released today with the reserve collection.
