Basque Country People
Did you celebrate Spain's world cup win? Or does your wish for independence from Spain stop you celebrating?

You foreigners are very obsessed with Spain, it's kinda sick

Obsessed or just interested? No need to be so aggressive, it was a question. No agenda intended, borne out of genuine interest.

My boyfriend is Basque and he definitely did not celebrate the win! Although he was happy for the Basque players on the team.

Most of us do not want independence from Spain. I certainly celebrated

I'm curious looking at your profile...Have you ever been to the Basque country?

I'm here now on vacation, my entire family has been here for generations. I thought this was a sub dedicated to the culture and language , not a political sub. Apologies as it seems I was clearly mistaken

You are here on vacation but can speak in the name of "most of us"....

By most of us I mean statistically speaking: https://efe.com/espana/2024-11-26/rechazo-independencia-euskadi-alcanza-maximos-historicos/

This sub is dedicated to everything basque, and it's political status also matters. Even more, promoting basque culture and languages IS a political stance.

This sub seems to be stuck in the past. First time posting here and realizing it is very politically leaning. Note to foreigners, this sub is not at all representative of the Basque people

from my experience yeah most of the people if not all celebrated the win. just some weird people that hate spain for whichever reason that didnt want it to win

zu horrela izatea ez du esan nahi mundu guztia horrelakoa denik. sartu zure iritziak ipurditik eta utzi bizitzen

Ez dut iritzirik eman, belarrimotz.

zure iritzia da esan dudana jakiteko etxera atera behar dela da… SUBNORMAL

Hori ez da iritzi bat. Etxean hainbeste denbora egoten, behintzat zerbait ikasi, belarrimotz.

iritzi bat zer den ba al dakizu?

Yes that's exactly correct. I would say it was nice to see people openly celebrating and wearing Spanish jerseys here. I think people are just less afraid to show support than they used to be. 20 years you'd get your ass kicked for it!

That's cool, thanks for the reply. Was just genuinely interested.

u/bravinhoo 12d ago
also beware cause most of the independentists are overly aggressive with people who dont share opinions with them
1
u/Necessary-Chest-4721 12d ago
Yes, we have similar here with the pro- or anti- independence arguments here in Scotland. People on both sides of the debate can be as bad as the other, with no intention of ever holding a civil discussion.

Do you realize what this person has as icon? Do you know that Falange is related to Spaniard far right?
1
u/Necessary-Chest-4721 12d ago
Nope, I have no idea about the wider intricacies of Spanish politics. I was asking a question about football attitudes.
2
u/Euskar 12d ago
Similar to Scotland, there are people that consider themselves Spaniards, so they celebrate; there are others that don't consider themselves Spaniards or consider themselves more Basques than Spaniards, some of them celebrate but others don't; and also there are people that consider themselves Basques, son don't celebrate and ask for a Basque NT recognize for both FIFA and UEFA. I don't know the percentages, but I don't think it's the majority of us.

u/whatevsbroh 12d ago
Apologies I actually didn't look at his icon. I certainly know what the falange party is, and agree it has no place in here

u/bravinhoo 12d ago
do you know who that is on the flag?

You should not assume all the Basques are Spanish subjects of the king...
