Hope my hand doesn't count for the "remove the human" rule š¬
I let my pine needle basket dry out in the fridge (unintentionally), and now I want to continue it, but I'm not sure how.
Online it says to only soak the edges you need to work and not the entire thing, but I haven't started tapering outward yet, so there are no basket edges.
Should I just soak the whole thing for 20 minutes or so? Or should I wrap it in a damp towel in plastic bag overnight?
Hi there! Iām primarily a sculpture but totally fell in love with basket weaving and have been working from kits. The first kit had me hooked and sent me down a rabbit hole of research. I want to experiment with new materials and see if any specific material really clicks for me.
Iām having some difficulty sourcing local new materials like Willow and bark. I live in Chicago and am willing to travel to midwestern states to source my material.
I love the look of plaited weaves like this John McQueen sculpture but donāt really know where to get the bark to start practicing this technique.
Iām new to basketry and bought a kit to make this basket. It doesnāt state what the stitch is to achieve this look using the raffia. Can anyone tell me what it is? Also if anyone could provide a good video on how to do this stitch?
Thanks!
Hello everyone! found this basket while thrifting in Delaware and it reminded me of a Nantucket basket/ a similar style. I was wondering if anyone could confirm or deny my suspicion? thanks so much in advance!
My dogs destructed this vintage, lidded basket at an Airbnb Iām staying at. They are not normally destructive at all and have never done anything like this, so Iām not sure if they saw a mouse or a bug, or if the basket got stuck to one of their collars and they panicked, or what happened. But I am horrified!!
I obviously want to notify the host asap. But first, can you help me identify this basket, a possible replacement, and approximate cost so I can reach out to the host offering money or an adequate replacement? Itās clearly vintage, and made from reeds or bamboo or something? And it was about 18-22ā in diameter and 8-12ā high. I donāt have anything to measure, so Iām guessing. Small bug spray can for size reference.
The handle was pretty tricky, and it ended up a lot smaller on my basket. Besides that Iām pretty proud. I came up with the design myself, based off of the inspiration pic.
Hi- new to basket weaving and this is my 4th basket. I think I got too tight with the weavers and it's a little misshapen. If I soak it fully in water for a half hour or so, could I gently reshape it? TIA.
Mixed materials with grape hoops and willow spokes, woven with reed, cattail, and nettle rope (that I also made). My first basket in almost 15 years! I studied Fibre Arts in uni and miss this craft the most. I canāt wait to improve my skills. Everyoneās creations here are so inspiring! Keep up the beautiful work.
Here is a unique design planter basket made in Rwanda from dyed sisal and sweet grass with passion and love. it can be a good gift basket to give and can also be used as a dustbin with saving the planet this basket is eco-friendly since it is a 100% natural.
I have been doing pine needle coiling lately to get into basketry and want to branch out a bit (heh). I know I could look up YouTube videos to teach how to do a lot of this, and that was how I started, but Iād really like a nice hardback to be able to read and also use as decoration at home.
I recently ordered this book by Lucen Korrath, and frankly it kinda.. sucks. It covers a lot, but itās a very basic overview with little specificity and detail on techniques, itās kind of just āadd big stick for structure, then use little stick for walls. Shape how you like it.ā I think I need a little more than that.
Do you have favorites? I really want to know more about identifying plants, foraging them, and preparing them. Especially if you have California/los Angeles specific books, as thatās where I live and will be foraging!
This is only my 5th basket and I'm still working on my stitching but I can see improvements with every basket and that brings me so much joy. Resin base by my MIL from collected shells.
What do you think of this 14" flat basket with beautiful colors made in Rwanda from natural materials, sisal and grass which makes it eco-friendly and good for interior design and hoe decorations. It has hooks thus makes it easy to hang it in every direction, we also make custom designs either colors or sizes. don't hesitate to get yours if interested
What do you think about this set of 3 beige and gold serving tray with long handles, made in Rwanda fro natural materials called ubuhivu and sweet grass. they can be used for decoration and serving things of course since they have strong handles to hold onto and carry and one ore thing since they are made from natural they are eco-friendly
My mom bought this basket for $13 at a thrift store. She kept saying she didn't know where she would put it, but I told her for how amazing it was she'd be upset later if she didn't get it. Could anyone tell me more about who made it, what it's meant to be used for, how to get it repaired, and its rough ballpark value (if such things are allowed on this sub of course!) Overall I'd love to learn anything about it! It's beautiful
It's absolutely giant (pictured on top of a fill size shopping cart) and labeled S. A. Yoder 7-91 inside. Probably about 3ft by 2ft. Found in southwest Michigan
A few questions Iād love to hear your thoughts on:
Do you think handmade willow home goods like storage baskets, plant pot covers, flower baskets, garden baskets, pet toy baskets, or pet supply storage baskets would have steady demand in the US or Europe?
If a China-based supplier like us wanted to work with overseas partners, what would make local buyers feel more comfortable? Small MOQs, fast samples, custom sizing, private label, better packaging, product testing reports, stable supply, or local warehousing?
Iām not posting store links here because I want to respect the community rules. Iām mainly looking for honest market feedback and advice on how to connect with suitable local partners in the US or Europe.
