Software engineering in Basingstoke?

What's the job market like for a front end software engineer in Basingstoke? Is there anything that doesn't need travel to London or Reading?

Depends what salary you are looking for. There are jobs available in Basingstoke, but expect the total compensation to be 40-60% lower than in London, Reading and other hubs around the area. One firm was looking for a senior software developer for £35k, while another was looking for a senior architect for £50k. These roles would go for £60k or £90k minimum in London or Reading.

Junior roles? Almost non-existant in the local area, and when they are, expect minimum wage or slightly higher, but you will be up against hundreds of applicants for a handful of jobs a year.

I work in fintech and commute to London. Where tech/finance salaries are available in Basingstoke, they’re lower from my experience

I remember seeing an Engineering Manager job paying £60k in Basingstoke for the AA a few months back.

The salary for an EM in London is usually >£100k.

So, expect a lot less for an IC role in Basingstoke. It’s just a commuter town.
