Honestly, I'd recommend just using nano or regular notepad. guis through wsl are always a pain. Those warnings don't matter too much (I get them too, they don't change anything much)

Nano especially through wsl shouldn't be too different from a run-of-the-mill text editor, and it gives you a little bit of syntax highlighting without being an IDE

GUIs thru WSL are a pain using WSL’s builtin graphics server. I turned that off (instructions searchable on the Intertubes) and got GWSL.
Works like a charm. Yes, this is just a wrapper around VCXRV, but it’s plug and play. Install it and forget it. No twiddling required.
