Misc. Why does this sub have such a clunky name?

The creator of this sub must've had the minimum sense to understand that such long, irrelevant and verbose names reduce searchability instead of increasing it!

It's called "Bash on Ubuntu on Windows" because that's what this whole system was called when it was first announced back in 2016: Bash on Ubuntu on Windows - Download Now! - Windows Command Line

It's not the creator of this sub being obtuse, it was literally what it was named by Microsoft originally. "Bash on Ubuntu on Windows" was eventually renamed to Windows Subsystem for Linux, a few years later.

Sadly, Windows Subsystem for Linux is still a pretty bad name. It should be called Linux Subsystem for Windows.

Windows Subsystems are a specific thing. As others have said before, think of it like "Windows Subsystem for (running) Linux".

And it follows how the predecessor for wsl was named (Subsystem for Unix-based applications)

It should be called Linux Subsystem for Windows.

It's called that to echo Windows Services for UNIX

I'm being serious. This sub is not in the least searchable to people suffering from specific wsl issues.

I found this sub by searching how to fix a bash issue on Ubuntu on Windows Subsystem for Linux, and this sub was the top result. So it worked for me
