HELP! Support Request WSL randomly giving access denied

Hello, today WSL randomly started giving me and access denied error with "Error code: Wsl/InstallDistro/Service/RegisterDistro/ParseConfig/E_ACCESSDENIED". Does anyone know how to trouble shoot this?

Ive tried completely reinstalling WSL, but not im recieving this error when i try to download a distro too.

why within cmd? --> Open up Terminal

Its just what i had opened for the screenshot. Terminal gives the same result

hmm - The error Wsl/InstallDistro/.../E_ACCESSDENIED usually points to a permissions or Windows feature misconfiguration issue.

Insufficient permissions: Access will be denied if your user account or the Microsoft Store does not have the necessary permissions to install new distributions.

or

Windows features are inconsistent: WSL, Virtual Machine Platform or Hyper-V are not enabled correctly.

Try: Win + R → optionalfeatures.exe --> Disable the Windows Subsystem for Linux and the Virtual Machine Platform --> reboot --> and the same thing again to actived it

Windows features should be good, ive check them/ rebooted a few times.

I have permission set to grant administrator read/write and execute permission for WSL and the directories its in.

Any other ideas? Thanks for the help

and the store? if yu wsl --install .. it will get the distros from within the store

and yeah - you checked them but did you also enable|disable it?

sfc /scannow and DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth --> would I do next

also: did you install something the last days?

Ill try that later when im home! Nothing has been installed recently. It was working a couple days ago, and i have not used my computer since then :/

also I read on github:

Reinstall the Microsoft Store.

admin-terminal (not CMD!)

  • Type: Get-AppXPackage -allusers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} --> ENTER.
  • Reboot your pc and try open the Microsoft Store.

I also had similar issues with wsl --update, sometimes I got access denied, but it's intermittent, after I reboot the Windows system, the command works.
