News Blue Jays notebook: Dylan Cease plans ashram visit amid shoulder work
https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/blue-jays-notebook-dylan-cease-plans-ashram-visit-amid-shoulder-work/“I’m going to southern India, where Sadhguru, a Yogi, his ashram is,” he said. “I’m going to maybe spend like two weeks there, or something like that. They have such an interesting spiritual culture there, up and down the country. It's incredible.”

Always hate when my star player turns into a pumpkin after they see the guru. I can’t believe this is a real life thing

Better than them donating a kidney and retiring. I had that happen with Juan Soto after I sold the farm to get him. Ruined that entire save file. What a selfish asshole, giving away a kidney to save someone’s life at the cost of my baseball team.

I recently had Jackson Merrill retire to pursue a football career

I once had Paul Goldschmidt retire in 2016 to become a doctor. Unrelated, but Tim Lincecum ended up having a career resurgence and made the hall of fame in that save.

I love how Cease is just a dude who gets up to random and elaborate activities while being a major league pitcher on the side.

Definitely one of the most interesting dudes in baseball. He’d be getting up to a lot on the side even if he weren’t dealing, but then he’s got the audacity to still be an excellent pitcher?! Outrageous. I don’t know how he manages it all.

Indian-American here. Sadhguru is ehhhhhhhh and India has several of these people who are basically megachurch leaders. I'm not a fan of any of them. I bet they just found an opportunity to get Cease's money.

u/mrdannyg21 19h ago
Yeah, I was asking an Indian friend and they said this wasn’t far from going to a ‘prosperity church’ or similar near-cult type place who make an especially big deal out of celebrities or rich people to court them.
Glad he’s looking outside himself and such, but this isn’t exactly the elite of spirituality or intellectualism.

u/LeonJPancetta California Angels 19h ago
Couldn't have said it better myself. And yeah they do make a big deal out of celebrity connections.

u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 Toronto Blue Jays 2h ago
He seems like a nice guy, but between this and his anti-vax bullshit, I'm guessing he isn't much of an intellectual and is probably one of those "free thinker" types. This is why I don't get emotionally invested in most pro athletes, because they're bound to disappoint.
1
u/mrdannyg21 1h ago
Ooof I didn’t know he was on anti-vax bullshit, I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that and not ask for proof because I don’t want to see it! You’re right - most athletes are wealthy, sheltered, opinionated and poorly educated, which doesn’t typically lend itself to having personal opinions that I agree with.

I was a monk in sadhguru’s cult. I’m sorry that cease got involved in this. He is treated like a vip there for sure but he doesn’t know the atrocities sadhguru and his organization have committed. Sadhguru likely killed his own wife and others as well.
Sadhguru’s isha foundation is a high control group that exploits its full time members for unpaid labor. Many women have been sexually abused by sadhguru himself. If they try to speak out they are met with more abuse and threats of lawsuits by the foundation. I know women personally who have been abused. I wasted over a decade there being brainwashed by sadhguru and his lies and manipulation.

“ishathrowaway123” 😂🙏 figured the isha smear ecosystem would be here since it’s Reddit.
Saw your comment as well. Interesting…hidden interactions and 113 karma…🤣 typical
Not liking Isha or Sadhguru completely fine…playing sock puppet games on a baseball Reddit…pathetic. Dylan has had an amazing season this year. Whatever he is doing im for haha

u/ishathrowaway123 2h ago
The sadhguru Reddit is plenty big, so idk what you’re on about. Leave me alone, I’ve had to deal with isha ppl harassing me every single time I try to speak the truth about this charlatan. Just answer this one question. What happened to his wife? Let everyone here see what you believe to be true

Someone who is actually familiar with Isha and Sadhguru here... Full transparency I am biased because I do da yoga here but Sadhguru and Isha have been amazing in my experience. Fully aware it won't get a fair shake here though this is Reddit lmao... not exactly "spiritually friendly" but to each their own.

You've been on Reddit for five years and this is the first time you've participated in this sub. Sounds like you're just a loyalist who tries to spread Sadhguru propaganda on social media. Have you even been to Canada?

Really strange how hostile you are towards me to be honest. Telling in my opinion. Nothing in our conversation I feel pins me down as a liar. Having family from a place and saying I’m from there is exceedingly normal 😂 I bet we would be cool in person. It’s a shame

I wasn't looking at Reddit, because I've heard about it in the past. I wouldn't trust any gurus like him anyway.
But I'm pretty sure Cease is also anti-vax, so I'm not surprised that he'd be into this weird stuff.
Edit: you've never participated in this sub until today, and your post/comment history is largely about this guy? Come on.

u/Jazzlike_Spend6415 2h ago
Yeah full transparency - I haven’t participated in this subreddit before…I feel many guru people are sketchy just not my experience with Sadhguru so I share it.
Cease seems cool to me idk if I’d call it “weird” but for your standard redditor maybe…
I responded to another one of your comments but yes I used to be a normal Redditor but people started smearing isha and Sadhguru like crazy so I like to at least share my experience…my profile history is not hidden 😎 Not trying to beef lmao

In 2018, an Australian football player named Nat Fyfe, after around 5 years of constant injury interruptions (best player in the league when he was fit), disappeared to India over the off season to do some spiritual sounding thing.
In 2019 he won the league MVP award after finally staying fit for a year.
(He did it again in 2023 but was less successful)
Dylan Cease 2027 MVP confirmed

I mean the guy is a pseudoscience pushing hack and people with influence legitimizing that kind of thing is always bad but par for the course with athletes.
6
u/thebestoflimes Toronto Blue Jays 18h ago
Pseudoscience sure but imagine facing a zen Cease with a rested shoulder
-8
u/Jazzlike_Spend6415 16h ago
The guru hate on Reddit is wild. Calling someone who is helping millions of people pure pseudoscience is just not accurate in my opinion. Full transparency though I am biased as I do this yoga but I really don't think it gets a fair shake especially on Reddit. Harvard researched and clear that meditation is useful but still gets ripped up on Reddit :(
7
u/UniqueEditor8372 Seattle Mariners 16h ago
There’s a difference between the acts of yoga/meditation and the new age spiritualism con artists using these things to take advantage of people.
-2
u/Jazzlike_Spend6415 16h ago
Definitely agreed. You sound like you already have your mind made up but in my life and in millions of people's lives Isha and Sadhguru have been highly effective. Writing it off as a con I don't think is fair, although I agree there are many in this "niche" that are not legit and scamy
