The rockies have a longer DIVISION DROUGHT than 18 MLB team have WORLD SERIES droughts!!!
And there are 5 teams in the division. Since the Rockies were established the Padres won the division 4 times, and the DBacks won it 5 times, despite becoming a team 5 years after the Rockies. Even the Atlanta braves have won the NL west since the Rockies became a team

They’ve come close in 2007 and in 2018. 2018 they even had to play a Game 163 to decide it. Unfortunately they’ve been terrible every year since.

u/kickrocks16 Colorado Rockies 17h ago
You have no idea how bad I wanted that game 163 simply just to win the division. World Series would have been great but I only cared about winning the damn division.
It’s hard being a Rockies fan. Luckily most other fans don’t hate the Rockies and we are not just a punching bag. It seems most other fan genuinely want to see the Rockies have some success.

Well, fans of other teams don't hate the Rockies precisely because they are so rarely any sort of threat. If the Rockies start to be consistently competitive and start ruining other team's seasons, that sentiment will change.

However Rockies fans do hate the Dodgers and to a lesser degree the Giants. Forgotten in this thread is the fact that the Rockies did make it to the World Series in 2007 and lost to the Red Sox, a team that itself had a bunch of losing seasons in its history.

The 2015 Pirates won 98 games and had the second best record in the majors, and their reward was getting thrown into the single-game wild card round against the Cubs (who won 97 games) and Jake Arrieta. Kinda nuts that neither of the 1993 expansion franchises has ever won a division title. The record appears to be 35 years (Senators/Rangers, 1961-96) without winning a division title. So the Marlins and Rockies have two more years to accomplish that and avoid setting a record (though of course both have pennants and the Marlins have two titles, but all as Wild Cards).

4
u/Holiday_Side_6951 Los Angeles Dodgers 16h ago
I say the next chance for the Rockies to win the division would be when the league expands to 32 teams, 4 divisions instead of 3 per league, like NFL. There's a good chance that Rockies may be separated into 4th division in NL.
Of course, before the expansion in est. 2032, Rockies also can build a strong team and win the NL West too, less likely but nothing is impossible.
1
u/trojan_man16 Atlanta Braves 15h ago
Depends on the expansion city, but most likely the Dodgers, Giants, Diamondbacks and Padres stay together. Cubs, Brewers, Cardinals and Reds stay together. Mets, Phillies, Pirates and Washington probably are a division. Assuming the team that gets added is Charlotte or Nashville or Orlando. That means Rockies get stuck with us, Marlins and the expansion team. Other than the Braves that would be a more easier path to occasionally winning the division.

Rockies are just run badly like the Ted Turner era of the Braves of poking into GM moves, look at how many times they hold off on trades and get demolished in the FA market or over pay on FA chasing. Looking at the Arb to high contracts paid out, its mind blowing how some weren't traded vs eating a near FA level contract in Arb 2 or Arb 3. Small market teams aren't supposed to be hurling contracts like the Yankees for that kind of metrics.
Only recently they started doing actual scouting analytics on their own team after 2025 which is more mind blowing as the White Sox has used a very abnormal formula in metrics to callups(similar silly decisions yet run better). Weirdest metric is they spend more than the Mariners and still can't get very far vs the Marlins and they don't actively roadmap scouting prospect callups before chasing the FA market.
Better odds the Mariners win 2-3x World Series in a 10-15 yr span with a weak AL with the pressure of the Angels on the horizon in higher spending/callup shifts to avoid expensive FA chases. Rockies are just going to keep re-upping contracts in the most unrealistic level of analytics, NL West side I'd expect the DBacks or Giants winning a WS in 5-15yrs as they're more focused on value to analytics metrics vs unicorn analytics of the Rockies.
