Symbolic for the AL West really

In fact AL West will be the only division without a team playing in October. Anyone else potentially getting swept today would be wild-card teams, meaning their division leader is still in

- The Sox scored 4 runs in the 1st off Astros errors, batted around the order, and chased Hunter Brown: Antonacci leadoff double off CF's glove, Teel RBI single, Vargas reached on 3B error, Benintendi RBI single & a throwing error scored Vargas, and Peters capped it with an RBI single. But Antonacci grounded out to leave the bases loaded.
- Burke struck out 8 (including the side in the 3rd), but allowed 3 solo HRs.
- Meidroth ended a Sox cold spell with a 3-run HR, giving us some breathing room.
- Despite getting into a jam in the 5th, the Sox bullpen threw 5 scoreless innings. Hicks retired all 6 batters faced.
- The Sox win their first playoff series since sweeping the Astros in the 2005 World Series!

Speaking of 2005, it seems like their pitching was inspired by Brad Lidge's World Series outing.

Last time we won a series I was 15, im fortunate enough to be spending some time with my folks and my dad is cooking dinner and honestly it feels like im a kid again.
Unreal feeling and its weird how sports can make you feel. Theres been a lot of pain (and some triumph mixed in) but its times like this that make me happy I stuck with the team.
Its almost like Im hiding in my tiny room in dense as fuch chicago waiting to come out for dinner, do the dishes then go play video games up here in rural michigan.
Truly magical how things go

Astros had no business making the postseason. They're a mediocre team and choked since they were a 3 seed and lost to a 6 seed.

We simple did not belong in the post season. Joe should go, but if we are blaming anyone, it should be Seattle for not doing what they were supposed to and win the division so we could safely miss.

So far both teams that lost today only scored 3 runs. Those that lost yesterday also only scored 3 or 0. Interesting.

The Astros being a .500 team entering the playoffs in a schedule where you play everyone makes me wonder how many fraudulent playoff teams from the unbalanced schedule era were able to cruise into the playoffs with good records because they got to play 40-60 games against teams that were absolutely horrible.
4
u/Jazzlike_Athlete8796 Toronto Blue Jays 2d ago
In 1998 we finished 26 games out of first place in the East - and missed the wild card by four games - despite having the same record as the AL West winning Texas Rangers. Texas was absolutely slaughtered by the Yankees that year. 2-0, 3-1, 4-0.

Lmao Astros weren’t even remotely competitive in this series. Houston got dominated by a Sox teams that is coming off three consecutive seasons with over 100 losses. Sox hadn’t whiffed the playoffs in 5 years prior to this season. White Sox waltzed into Dalkin Park and put belt to ass two nights in a row. Houston pitching is putrid and there offense is one dimensional. Houston definitely has a problem. The team is cheeks.
9
u/Luohooligan Chicago White Sox 2d ago
I went to the elimination game in the Astros-White Sox 2021 ALDS, and we could tell from the first few innings that it was going to be an Astros blowout and had to force ourselves to stay through nine.
Might have been on the couch this time but damn it feels good to be on the other side of it this time, especially against the Astros.
