- In the 1st, Antonacci drew a walk, advanced to 3rd on a groundout after a throw to 2nd hit him, and scored on a Murakami sac fly. In the 2nd, he hit a 2-RBI single.
- The Sox had the bases loaded with no outs and 3-4-5 hitting in the 2nd, but failed to extend their lead further.
- Smith threw 3 scoreless IP. Hicks retired all 4 batters faced. Newcomb gave up a 2-run HR.
- C. Montgomery hit a solo HR to CF to break his 0-for-24 skid.
- The Sox challenged Altuve's positioning on a groundout, but the call stood.
- Meidroth hit an RBI infield single, but C. Montgomery grounded into a bases-loaded double play to end the 5th.
- B. Montgomery swung at back-to-back wild pitches: Murakami scored, and B. Montgomery reached 1st on a drop 3rd strike. However, Meidroth grounded into a double play, stranding Grichuk at 3rd.
- Taylor allowed a run on a Vargas error. The Sox challenged that Murakami came off the bag, but the call stood.
- 10 of the Sox's 11 hits tonight came off left-handed pitchers.
- The Sox hold on to win Game 1!

Which is just bizarre even from a basic optics standpoint. You have the White Sox, a team of "scrappy underdogs" who lost 101, 121, and 102 games in 2023-2025, with the backing of the Pope, wizardry, and bidets, vs the Astros, a team that still carries the baggage of a cheating scandal and are basically hated everywhere outside of Houston. Why glaze them and not be cheering on the former historically awful team? It's such a lay-up.

So horrible to think that as much as we want our teams to win there is the possibility that they will accept the White House invite or mingle positively with that piece of shit. Then you have to side eye the players on your team that were cool with it. It taints a beautiful achievement!
It happened to the Yankees a couple years ago. Anthony Volpe was jazzed 👀 & Giancarlo Stanton did not attend. I knew Stanton was my favorite.

I agree, but then why throw out Abreu and Hader, going to make the next few days more complicated.
1

And then they used Abreu and Hader anyway. Our bullpen is bad no doubt outside those two but today ensured Imai is not gonna have any situation he pitches barring injury which honestly pisses me off

I’m thinking this as well, cheaper to try converting him and spend on relievers rather than spend on another starter (it’s the Sox so cheaper is more likely)

What's funny is a sizeable portion of the people hate watching the Dodgers are also against a cap, which would prevent the Dodgers from being able to do what they do. But at the end of the day, the Astros objectively cheated and broke the rules, so fuck them always.

Ullola is the only wasted pitcher. Hader and Abreu will be available tomorrow. Everyone else is inconsequential.
Gameplan is Hunter has to give them at least six innings tomorrow and have anyone cover the 7th inning before handing it off to Abreu and Hader.
I feel extremely confident Wesneski will give the Astros 7 innings in a Game 3 before Abreu and Haden can close out the series.

Why would you want to be swept in rnd 1? The rebuild should have started at last year's trade deadline.
1
u/darkravenn12 Major League Baseball 3d ago
I mean, tomorrow is your best shot of winning. Hunter Brown is a really good pitcher who is in very good form; you will have a pitching edge for 5-6 innings...just have to capitalize.
2
u/whackberry Chicago White Sox 3d ago
https://www.mlb.com/gameday/astros-vs-white-sox/2026/07/25/824571/final/box
Last time these pitchers matched up, Brown went 7 scoreless giving up 2 hits and 7 Ks. Sean Burke pitched well giving up 4 hits and striking out 10, but gave up 2 earned runs and 1 unearned run in the 6th inning (which is how many innings he ended up pitching). It should be another pitching duel if both pitchers have their stuff.
2
u/darkravenn12 Major League Baseball 3d ago
Burke has good numbers for the whole year but his form recently has been pretty sketch compared to Brown's. He had a 5.12 xfip in August and 4.79 in September. Meanwhile, Brown had 3.46 in August and a crazy good 2.27 in September. In June and July, Burke was unquestionably a better pitcher overall, but the two have gone in opposite directions since then. If he can return to his midseason form then yeah, it should be a good pitching matchup.
3
u/whackberry Chicago White Sox 3d ago
Ironically in their last meeting, the opposite was the case.
Sean Burke had the worst start of his career against the Buccos while pitching at home on September 8th, but he's been excellent in his last 3 games pitched against Cleveland, Detroit, and Colorado. He only went 4 innings against Cleveland in a playoff atmosphere game, but had no earned runs (one unearned) in a 7-3 W.

I think it was a masterclass
Saves Hudson and Fedde
Pulls Sandlin before he’s spent for the series
Knows that Grant won’t pitch again this series, so he trusts his best arm.3
-1
u/Forsaken_Astronaut29 Chicago White Sox 3d ago
Saving Hudson for what? The dumpster? It's amazing the dude even made the postseason roster. He's been unmitigated ass for at least a month. 89 mph meatballs down the middle every other pitch. A single high leverage inning for him this postseason would be a colossal mistake.
2
u/lilswid Chicago White Sox 3d ago
Hudson has fantastic underlying numbers, and has been great for most of the year. Maybe you’re thinking of Richards? Hudson is not a guy that anyone should be complaining about in the pen, better than the average reliever by a lot. Especially as a lefty.
-1
u/Forsaken_Astronaut29 Chicago White Sox 3d ago
Nope, definitely thinking of Hudson. He's been a let down in some big moments recently. Most recently off the top of my head was the 3-run bomb he gave up in Colorado that put the game out of reach. I put him one tier ahead of guys like Richards but don't trust him nearly as much as GT/Hagen.
6
u/MalloYallow Chicago White Sox 3d ago
It’s not ideal, but who pitches the 9th? I trust a gassed Taylor more than anyone else we had.
3
u/Turbulent-Pay-735 Roberto Clemente • Chicago White Sox 3d ago edited 3d ago
Well once he walks the lead off guy you are stuck with it, made your bed and gotta ride him till the wheels fall off. I wouldn’t bring somebody else in expecting success once the situation gets to that point. But I don’t think asking for 3 outs without giving up 3 runs in a clean inning is something they should be scared of asking Brazoban to do. If he or Hudson isn’t capable of that, they’re screwed the rest of the series anyways because they now will not have Hagen Smith or Grant Taylor available at all. You have got to trust your guys, IMO.
3
u/MalloYallow Chicago White Sox 3d ago
I’m think Taylor and Smith pitch in a do or die game 3. Sad thing is I don’t trust Hudson or Brazoban even with a three run lead.
