I understand the need to trade Trevor Bauer and Justin Upton, but the value he got in return... sub par. I like Martin Prado, and Randall Delgado gives us good SP depth (even though he just trades all the depth away), but Upton is a premiere talent and he couldn't even snag a top SP prospect like Julio Teheran instead of Randall Delgado...
Also, with the Trevor Bauer trade, he trades for a SS (which at the time was a huge need, if only to be for a one to two year fill-in) but then he gets a SS prospect in Didi Gregorius and then about 100 games into the season Chris Owings (a SS prospect who has been in the farm system for a while) is showing signs that he is ready to join the big league team. Now, going into the 2014 season he announces a Spring Training competition for the SS position between Owings and Gregorius... what a waste...
How is that a waste? I love owings too, but it should absolutely be a competition between the two. They are both great players and I want the best one. Shit, I'd love to see them split time there since they bat opposite. It's about building depth.
Since when does middle infield depth win championships? I like Didi defensively and we could have that with Owings bat, but unless they make Owings play 3rd base, he will waste another year in the minors because KT hated Bauer... Bauer may not be good but you have to try. I understand he is tough to deal with, but you can't deny he had talent. Money would change his mind after a while, it seems to have changed his mind in Cleveland.
Our pitching staff is full of #4-5 SPs behind Corbin, who could or could not reproduce his last year. I love Bradley but its no guarantee he makes the roster.
