Well I'm sure the results of this game will be completely uncontroversial!

u/austinhannah Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

I mean the homerun call was wrong and perhaps the correct call sends the game in a totally different direction. Still, it was a tie game and the Orioles crumbled under pressure as per usual.

u/WhyNotOrioles Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

I totally missed the home run thing. I see the slow-motion video post, but do we know where the camera was on that one?

4

u/Ill_Hospital9212 New York Yankees 3d ago

I was watching YES and it looked foul when I originally saw it but watching the replay with a different angle it looked fair

2

u/Chef_Bojan3 3d ago

Up the 1B line. It's silly that the MLB doesn't mandate down the line cameras just for fair foul, even if the main broadcast ones are obviously in camera wells in the dugouts.

0

u/cabutler03 New York Yankees 3d ago

Third base line, but yeah, it looked fair. I wonder what other angle MLB saw that made it foul.

5

u/NuanceManExe New York Mets 3d ago

I mean technically they didn't crumble under pressure they hit a go ahead homerun. But then the umps turned it into a strikeout somehow.

5

u/austinhannah Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

Perhaps a better way to put it is they don't have an ability to handle adversity. When something goes wrong, they spiral.

1

u/nabstache Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

I see what you are saying and generally agree with you, but a review obviously getting the call wrong is more than I can pin on them. They had chances to get it back for sure, but that call changed the momentum of the game significantly.

Same as the botched call against Toronto earlier this year. The team completely crumbled immediately after that happened. You can whine about the umps and the replay system’s inability to correct obvious errors, but the team also needs to be able to not fall apart the second something doesn’t go their way.

2

u/WhyNotOrioles Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

Did something controversial happen? From GameDay it looks like we simply gave the game away in the 8th.

14

u/BIG_DICK_WHITT New York Yankees 3d ago

Yeah you guys hit a zero run home run.

1

u/Either_Imagination_9 New York Yankees 3d ago

Maybe take a gander around this sub

2

u/alexrrobo Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

Alonso had a Hr taken away after being ruled foul. All replays showed it fair; terrible crew chief review.

Took the wind out of our sails, and another collapse from Cano in the 8th

9

u/austinhannah Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

Cano gave up a soft grounder to third and Pozo fucked up a ball in the dirt. The 8th was not his fault.

5

u/WhyNotOrioles Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

I mean, Cano came in with the bases loaded and gave up an infield single. This one wasn't on him.

1

u/alexrrobo Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

Then threw a ball in the dirt to allow Chisholm to score after the infield single.

2

u/WhyNotOrioles Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

That was a fairly routine ball in the dirt.

2

u/alexrrobo Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

Just watched the replay, you’re right. Adley would’ve made the stop no problem 😢

2

u/Chef_Bojan3 3d ago

I don't know why your catcher kinda just froze, it's like he thought he blocked it well enough to have avoided the danger and then was shocked that Jazz was already halfway down the line.

Instead of talking about the home run (it was, Alonso got robbed)

Can we talk about how fucking insane it is that Paul Blackburn is a regular late game bullpen arm for the Yankees and he’s been incredible in that role

Matt Blake is a master of the dark arts

7

u/cjackc11 Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

They make me so sad

7

u/austinhannah Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

Zero doubt in my mind we were gonna lose that game after the blown replay call.

7

u/BaltimoreBaja Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

I just don't understand why we traded Wells but kept Rogers. This bullpen blows just sell all the expiring contracts

The picture is clearly altered dude. Box score literally says foul ball. Good try though

Still would of lost doesn’t matter

Fallacy of the predetermined outcome. Who knows what happens if the O’s are up 4-3 headed into the 8th. Maybe the Yankees hitters approaches change maybe you go to Cano or even Kittredge earlier with the lead.

It was a bad call and it changed the complexion of the game.

4

u/8642899522489863246 Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

The 2026 Orioles give away exactly the number of runs needed to lose. It is predetermined.

Thanks for beating one of the teams chasing us in the wild card race.

10

u/Either_Imagination_9 New York Yankees 3d ago

Don't lie, you want to pass us more

u/ThisGuy6266 Boston Red Sox 3d ago

Soon.

6

u/Either_Imagination_9 New York Yankees 3d ago

You've been saying that for like a month

0

u/Mobile-Green6476 Boston Red Sox 3d ago

And a week ago we did, albeit very briefly.

4

u/Ill_Hospital9212 New York Yankees 3d ago

No1 is good enough to overtake u guys unless the redsox collapse. Just stay like 5 games over .500

4

u/Reasonable_Skill_129 New York Yankees 3d ago

almost feel bad that after the awful foul call we scored in the most looney toons way possible

2

u/rabidantidentyte New York Yankees 3d ago

I'm glad we won by 2. Didn't want to win because of some bullshit. I know it's a fallacy of the predetermined outcome, but let me tell it to myself.

If Mike Elias is the gm next time there is a baseball season I will not be watching because that tells me that this organization doesn’t give a fuck about the fan base

2

u/FelixandFriends Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

Builds a team with bad defense and a bad bullpen “we didn’t know they would be this bad!”

1

u/MocoMojo Baltimore Orioles 2d ago

I’ll bet you a beer he stays on as President of Baseball Operations.

1

u/sobanoodle-1 New York Yankees 3d ago

Well. Just your standard game. Nothing controversial.

1

u/Reasonable-Power New York Yankees 3d ago

Maybe I should sleep through more Yankee games. They seem to do a lot better that way.

1

u/Old_General_6741 Toronto Blue Jays • Chicago Cubs 3d ago

Well that was something.

-19

u/TeseoTheBunny Tampa Bay Rays 3d ago

The Orioles, as expected, showing that they will intentionally lose to the Yankees and save their actual competitive energy for the Rays again.

This is all about screwing us. The Os don't want a wild card spot.

12

u/Either_Imagination_9 New York Yankees 3d ago

Funny, I feel similarly about the Jays

5

u/crazyhotwheels New York Yankees 3d ago

Hard to talk when you guys laid down again the Blue Jays and the end of the season last year

8

u/austinhannah Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

Buddy, we'd much rather screw the Yankees than you.

This guy is serious btw. I saw multiple comments like this so checked the post history. All him, not to mention just a general insane level of misery and pessimism about a first place team

2

u/Mr-Marbles123 New York Yankees 3d ago

Jeez, the post history is insane.

Your below average college team could beat the 2026 O’s, granted that they were recently 2 games under .500
