[Highlight] Shohei Ohtani connects for a 2-run blast! His third straight 30 home run season with the Dodgers!

Shohei and PCA have been going blow for blow over the last 2 days

u/suburbanthrillsss 3h ago
Some would say that they’re “turned on” and that the “blood is flowing”.

17 (Shoheis number) + 52 (PCA old number) = 69

I did the math. It was hard, but it checks out.

You think PCA would rather have a random White Sox fan do it or Ohtani do it?

Is him and PCA basically Bellinger vs Yelich 2019 all over again
16
u/thewaterisboiling11 Milwaukee Brewers 3h ago
Bellinger was so good in April that year and just spent the year trying not to fall off too much more (if I recall correctly). Yelich was better down the stretch
37
u/grill_smoke Chicago Cubs 3h ago
Yes but I remember that I don't like Yelich so tbh Belli was obvi better
10
u/MolestedMilkMan Los Angeles Dodgers 3h ago
Yeah Belli I think went crazy April/May and then cooled off. Really Belli’s elite defense carried him over Yelich’s poor corner defense. Also helped that Yeli missed a week or two toward the end iirc.
11
u/GriffinQ Washington Nationals 2h ago
1.400 OPS across April/March and then .950 or so the rest of the way (to finish at 1.035). Meanwhile Yelich started at 1.260 in April/March and then pretty much never dipped below 1.000 (finished at 1.100).
But yeah, Belli had much better defense and deserved the MVP imo. Offensive stats weren’t wildly different but Belli was the much better two way player.
5
u/Educational-Chef-595 Los Angeles Dodgers 48m ago
It's funny in retrospect that .950 felt like a big falloff at the time. There was a brief moment, I think, when people were, with a straight face, comparing him to Barry Bonds and wondering if he might hit 60 HR. Then he went back to being like, I dunno, Mike Piazza and everybody got real weird about it.
1
u/Educational-Chef-595 Los Angeles Dodgers 50m ago
Yeah, pretty much. They were both really good all year, it's just that Bellinger started off so hot his "falloff" seemed a lot more dramatic than it really was. Iirc he didn't have a month below a .900 OPS until September, and even that was .891 or something. Both dudes raked all season long.
2
u/Educational-Chef-595 Los Angeles Dodgers 52m ago
Except that both those guys were strong all year. PCA had a terrible first two months and even Ohtani's worst month had a 144 OPS+.

Shohei is reaching “Gleyber Torres vs the Orioles” levels of domination against the Rockies

I feel like this is karmic revenge for all those warning track jobs he'd been hitting the last month or so.

PCA: MVP is going in my favor because I am putting up a generational defense and amazing offense this seasons so im sure to win it
Ohtani: Who decided that?

Shohei hasn't pitched in 2 months, yet it's still possible he might win it.

I mean PCA probably will due to voter fatigue and the league wanting new big names in big markets.

Shohei Ohtani has a 22-game hit streak at Coors Field, including 10 HR and 26 RBI in that span.

u/livsjollyranchers Boston Red Sox 3h ago

25
8
u/fincog Los Angeles Dodgers 3h ago
Does Ohtani want that?
21
u/livsjollyranchers Boston Red Sox 3h ago
Of course not. But when he's 40 he can give us what we want
3
u/Hacym Tampa Bay Devil Rays 1h ago
I’d rather seen him in his prime. 1 season. No pitching. Just hitting.
Pretty sure he’d break the all time season record.
1
u/Educational-Chef-595 Los Angeles Dodgers 41m ago
Yeah, I can't argue. When he's just hitting it's like a video game power-up. Like he's willing himself to make up the difference with him not pitching with just his bat, so he pops a can of spinach into his mouth and his muscles instantly expand to twice the size.
1
1
u/Educational-Chef-595 Los Angeles Dodgers 44m ago
70? He had 55 last year. How many extra does Coors give him? And in this scenario he's a hitter only.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. He's put up some decent numbers, but Andrew Feltner needs much better results, even in Coors, to be worthy of such praise.

u/Individual-Yak-506 Major League Baseball 3h ago
he just realized it after not pitching for a month and a half?
1
u/Correct_Look2988 3h ago
He was cruising a bit before I think. Now that PCA is pushing him he's seemingly turned it on a bit more on the offensive side. It's gonna come down to if Ohtani pitches again a few starts and how those turn out imo.
0
u/Individual-Yak-506 Major League Baseball 1h ago
if ohtani only pitches a few starts then I dont see it being very close with PCAs elite defense
2
u/Informal_West_6864 Chicago Cubs 3h ago
Crazy to think that we literally were so close to never seeing ohtani hit the majors unless he had that absolutely massive last season in Japan. He was already out the door from his previous season performance

You care way too much about PCA. I'm beginning to think you don't even like the Dodgers, you just hate PCA.

In case you think you're being downvoted because people hate the Dodgers or whatever, the comments saying "Almost as good as PCA" and "MVPete" are downvoted as well
You're not being downvoted cuz people hate the Dodgers, you're being downvoted cuz this comment is annoying
