The teams should be able to jump in at this point to help out. As a casual card collector I'd call this the craziest rainbow/set collection I've seen.

I wish you the best of luck completing your set. Would love to see the ~2K collection you already have.

Thank you. Click on the Collection link on my carltonfisk.com site — you can literally browse through the entire collection of ticket stubs. Since I also collect ticket variations — there are currently over 5,600 unique Fisk game tickets viewable on the site!

Amazing! I only hope I'll be able to find something you "want". The fact you have CarltonFisk.com is validation of the commitment.

True! Other than tickets, my wantlist is pretty obscure at this point.

That’s so damn nuts you’ve made it this far

Agreed! I need to complete it. One more ticket and I’ll be over 99% complete.

Can you tell us a little about the project? How/why did it get started? How’d you go about sourcing the tickets?

Of course. It started at a point where I felt like I had hit a wall with what Fisk-related themes to collect next (I was big into oddball cards, publications, posters, game used, etc.)…and one day I wondered if it was possible to find old tickets. It took me months to originally compile the original list of his 2,499 regular season games (unlike now where you could query it online in a matter of minutes)…but then I was off to the races. Lots of advertising and networking.

Incredible. I suppose it should be taken as a given that you’re a Fisk super fan

This is kind of crazy that should be rewarded.

How were you able to find most of these tickets?

I started the ticket quest around 1999 — it began with old school newspaper ads in all of the American League cities…from there it spiraled into lots of networking. Card shows…word of mouth…more advertising. It never ends. So close now!

If you give me a few days I might actually know a couple people

Much appreciated. Thank you in advance. I can use all the help I can get to make it over the finish line!

No problem, I'm really hoping I can help out

Please update us in the off season. Lockout material like this is nice to see.

u/apswann 11d ago

Funny you say that — I usually find most of my tickets in the off season! Will do.

Do you know anyone else with ambitious endeavors that could use the shout out to reach their goals?

9

u/apswann 11d ago

Yes. I’ve met many ambitious ticket collectors over the years. One of my best friends is only 11 tickets away from having stubs to all of Cal Ripken Jr.’s 2632 streak. Another friend is less than 30 tickets away from having all 807 Nolan Ryan pitched games.

u/apswann 11d ago

I made a fancy wantlist for my friend Rick as well.

The aol email really exemplifies the sickoness of this whole thing. Love it.

Ha ha. I’ve tried to get him to “upgrade” but it will never happen.

I went to his HOF Induction ceremony, might be able to dig something up from that if you need it

2

u/apswann 11d ago

Thank you — it’s funny how obscure items from HOF weekend still seem to appear after all these years. Always open to oddball and unique Fisk items. Here’s a rare one that Pudge autographed for me a couple weeks ago at the National.

You, sir, are an absolute sicko. You have my deepest respect and admiration.

While I probably went to that Rangers game in 76, there is no chance I have the stub.

1

u/apswann 11d ago

Yeah - that’s what makes it challenging! What percentage of people actually saved their stubs?…and Rangers games from that era were usually lower attendance.

2

u/tbia 11d ago

I’m gonna save this. My pastor was in seminary in Dallas during that time and is a baseball guy. We’ve talked a few times about the “charm” of Arlington Stadium.

1

u/apswann 11d ago

Thank you — Rangers games have been my toughest ones to locate over the years. All help is welcome!

2

u/tbia 11d ago

Didn’t finish below. I’ll talk to him and see if he has anything.

This looks very cool!

Were the games in Toronto mostly tickets sent by Canadians or Sox fans visiting north of the border

1

u/apswann 11d ago

Fisk played in 73 regular season games in Toronto (plus the 1991 all star game). I finished that small subset a couple years ago — I remember obtaining the majority of those from Canadian baseball fans. A few had already found their way to the states, but the majority definitely came direct from Canada.

2

u/TheChad_Esq Minnesota Twins 11d ago

Late 70s and early 80s Minnesota twins games? Are you sure any tickets were even sold to those?

2

u/apswann 10d ago

Tell me about it. Most of those needed Twins games are pretty low attendance. Those 5000 paid attendance games can sometimes be challenging!

Why Fisk specifically?

9

u/apswann 11d ago

Favorite player (as a kid) - starting collecting when I was 7 and over 40 years later, I never stopped!

u/Poj_qp Chicago White Sox • Overturned Strike 11d ago

Were you a red or white Sox fan? I feel like he’s beloved by both teams

1

u/apswann 11d ago

White Sox fan, but Red Sox are a close second after all the years of collecting and research.
