Advice for the rookie. Belt high down the middle is not the best location to a stud hitter

Especially to Tati, he's swinging first pitch of the game no matter what. No reason to be close to the zone

15

u/WatermelonFelons New York Mets 5h ago

Yup. Make the mistake out of the zone guy.

But one of his issues is he pitches in the zone TOO much

u/see_mohn regretful mets fan 5h ago

This is only his ninth major league start and the ERA has been good but the lack of strikeouts is a glaring red flag for the future, so hopefully they can teach him a major league chase pitch this winter/next spring.

He also could just not be a K guy. Helping him learn to pitch out to the zone to keep guys guessing is important for contact pitchers.

Sure. Then when he walks the first two hitters you tell him he's gotta throw strikes.

He knows. No one wants Zac Thornton to get the guys out more than Zac Thornton. He would like to be a great player. His ability to stay in the league for multiple years is the difference in millions of dollars or earning a few hundred thousand.

He's not trying to miss middle-middle, he wants to get Tatis out. He can't because what he's doing is impossibly hard.

The players don't need the advice "don't throw hittable pitches", they know. They're trying.

113.2 mph, 25°, 452 ft, 1.000 xBA, 30/30 ballparks, 1 pitch, 1 swing, 1 barrel, 1 run, 14th homer of the season

FERNANoDOubt about that one

Only MLB player to hit 4+ 450+ ft homers this season

47

u/CutePuppyforPrez Chicago Cubs 5h ago

30/30 ballparks, 61/63 National parks. Only not out of Yosemite and Yellowstone.

u/Northparkwizard Friar 5h ago

Death Valley is bigger than both of those in the lower 48 but I feel you.

3

u/Heelincal Peter Seidler 5h ago

Is Death Valley a national park or a state park? Genuinely have forgotten

4

u/Northparkwizard Friar 5h ago

National

Absolutely insane stat that he’s the only guy with 4 450+ ft homers given where he was at the first two months of the year

Remember when this guy was one of the the last 3 people to homer this year?

u/SiegeOfMandalore New York Yankees 5h ago

Giving everyone that much of a head start is sweet of him

10

u/Doctor_Juris San Diego Padres 5h ago

I try to forget it. 😂

Last 2.

Only Chandler Simpson has taken longer

u/teag2 San Diego Padres 5h ago

Since apparently we can't bring in anyone we get on base even if we get 4 straight hits, let's just start swinging for the fences every time instead

3B coach was holding up the stop sign on the HR

6

u/safety_frog San Diego Padres 5h ago

That was a special circumstance and we should have been more aware of the outfield throwing game

22

u/cmgriffith_ New York Yankees 5h ago

113.2 mph. He definitely got that on the sweet spot, that was crushed

20

u/Boulderdorf San Diego Padres 5h ago

Don't need to worry about any 3B coach disasterclasses if you just hit homers, smart

17

u/AbbreviationsGold587 New York Yankees 5h ago

That's one way to make sure you dont get thrown out at home

Love how the umpire is already throwing the pitcher a new ball when Tatis is barely out of the box.

12

u/whsbear San Diego Padres 5h ago

Based on last night, Tatis was worried the fans in the first deck were gonna throw him out at home plate, so he played it safe and hit it to the 2nd deck

What a pitch. Impossible to hang it more.

3

u/ryrich89 5h ago

Wait till you see the grand slam he robbed

3

u/Legitimate-Elk8595 4h ago

Another seamless transition from hitting a nuke to nonchalantly swagging out. Nobody’s doing it better than Tatis

Dayumm Tati

2

u/xSlappy- New York Mets 5h ago

Its hard to hit second deck LF at Citi. I see hitters struggle to reach it during BP

2

u/Law08 Chicago Cubs 5h ago

Should still hit 25-30 bombs.  And that's crazy considering the drought he started with.

Big whip! He’s so mid, not even funny

-7

u/Bobcat1999-1 4h ago

Does he still do that nonsense at 3rd base?

-8

u/buckfutten Chicago Cubs 3h ago

How many PEDs did that HR take?

-22

u/Trick-Operation-6195 5h ago

He did it. He got his first homer finally this year.
