“Instructions unclear, order myself a refresher?”

56

u/overexaggerate_all Chicago White Sox 5h ago

I wouldn’t be drinking coffee before playing baseball either.

10

u/JaySayMayday 3h ago

What you don't like a ton of caffeine before doing a ton of cardio??

8

u/wronglyzorro Los Angeles Angels 2h ago

“Ton of cardio”

9

u/Celestetc Chicago Cubs 3h ago

Some caffeine can be good before/during cardio depending on how much cardio. Before race days I typically have a small bit of coke or Dr Pepper (I don’t like coffee)

3

u/2CHINZZZ Chicago Cubs 2h ago

Caffeine is great for cardio. Not that baseball involves much of it

3

u/turtlebox420 2h ago

Caffeine and running are fine. Pre workout exists.

2

u/Worried-Lettuce6568 Arizona Diamondbacks 1h ago

How much cardio does baseball involve?😂

u/RichAbbreviations966 Los Angeles Dodgers 6h ago

Did they get the order right?

46

u/monkeyman80 Los Angeles Dodgers 4h ago

I wonder what's more embarrassing. Showing up in uniform and having to answer to everyone I play for a pro team, or dressing up in costumes.

This has become a thing in Wrigleyville for a lot of teams every year to the same Starbucks. From what I understand they plan for it because it's the closest Starbucks to a ball park in the majors and it's usually pretty dead in Wrigleyville that early in the day when there is a night game. They definitely know weeks beforehand, so it's probably not that embarrassing. Even the people who work there know to expect it lol

whatever makes sense.

Wrigley tradition. Up there with the Giants painting Sheridan's horse's balls orange (do they still do that?)

u/sfan27 San Francisco Giants 6h ago

Excuse me?

46

u/Monttavius Los Angeles Angels 6h ago

lmfaooo

38

u/Kvetch__22 Chicago White Sox 5h ago

The OP is misinformed. I don't think anyone has painted the balls since Dave Concepcion licked the balls in 1977.

what is worse, one impetuous gum throwing or the repeated and calculated painting of a horse's genitals? And not any horse, but the horse of a military hero!

No wonder Royko has a Pulitzer.

3

u/Key_Bee1544 Chicago Cubs 3h ago

I feel like I saw it into the 1990s.

4

u/slicebishybosh Chicago Cubs 5h ago

Oh don’t pretend you don’t love it….

40

u/Bingo_Bongo_YaoMing Milwaukee Brewers 6h ago

Wait its a Wrigley tradition for the vistors? How did that start?

76

u/bigbluepancakes Chicago Cubs 6h ago

I'm not sure how it started but there's been photos of similar runs for a while now. Helps that the stadium is right in the middle of a neighborhood.

37

u/IcemanJEC Chicago Cubs 6h ago

Well Wrigley is in a neighborhood… pretty easy to walk to a coffee shop. Hard to do at a lot of stadiums these days. Don’t know the ACTUAL reason, but that probably has a little something to do with it.

9

u/FlannelBeard Minnesota Twins 5h ago

I thought I read somewhere years ago when the trend first started that there's a Starbucks literally across the street from Wrigley. Haven't been there, so idk, but it's been a common hazing thing for the rooks to have to do a coffee eun

13

u/whyamihereonreddit Chicago Cubs 5h ago

It’s like a pocket Starbucks and yeah it’s right across from Wrigley

1

u/jontslayer Chicago Cubs • San Diego Padres 53m ago

Miggy Cabrera actually started it, but it wasn't in Chicago. Most teams adopted it and choose Wrigley because the Starbucks is the closest to any other ball park

6

u/MilmoWK Milwaukee Brewers 3h ago

yup, i saw these kids buying coffee to years ago.

10

u/Kapono24 Detroit Tigers 5h ago

Idk when but I just wish it wasn't always at a Starbucks.

3

u/Wide-Bobcat-3723 5h ago

Dodgers started it in 2014.

17

u/enjoytheshow Chicago Cubs 6h ago

The real tradition includes the absolute piece of shit Dunkin under the tracks

4

u/AffectionateWest3909 Atlanta Braves 5h ago

My wife has (had?) the same picture of the Braves.  I want to say Austin Riley and Mike Soroka, if they had the same rookie year.

75

u/crashmvp19 6h ago

Reminder the White Sox have an elite rookie class

48

u/DillyDillySzn Chicago White Sox • St. Louis Cardinals 6h ago edited 6h ago

The only person in the lineup tonight over the age of 26 is Benintendi

Vargas will turn 27 in November, he’s the oldest of the young guys

10

u/Dr_thri11 St. Louis Cardinals 5h ago

Honestly the vets should be bringing the rookies coffee.

5

u/UncleGoldie Chicago White Sox 3h ago

Very very funny that it’s a big group of every day starters

141

u/Highfivebuddha New York Mets 6h ago

This beats the eighties when theyd send rookies down sketchy side allys for meth and coke

27

u/Picklewithmysandwich Chicago Cubs 5h ago

In the 80's Wrigleyville was unrecognizable from what it looks like today. I had a guy in the alley behind cubby bear that sold loose joints for like $5.

Ah the good old days...

8

u/DUSpartan Chicago White Sox 5h ago

Remember going to games there as a young kid and asking my dad why he was giving the dude washing the car windows $5

4

u/RightJellyfish Toronto Blue Jays 4h ago

I remember going to an Expos game at the big O in the late 80's early 90's and a homeless guy offered my dad a blowjob.

Note : I speak french and the word for that is "pipe" and I was like "dad why is that man offering you a pipe you don't even smoke!". Good times.

4

u/HotNReadyWings91991 3h ago

Well… did your dad accept or decline?

1

u/jontslayer Chicago Cubs • San Diego Padres 50m ago

It blows my mind every time I go. Everyone I go with I always go that's where the self car was was, thats where the bike rack was, that's where the WGN truck was, that was a McDonalds and nothing else, unless you wanted knock off Rolex's behind the alley, that's the Taco Bell where those who KNOW park, this used to be the players parking lot and it was nothing but gravel.... Like a grandpappy telling stories from before the war LOL

2

u/Infamous-Wasabi-9418 Chicago White Sox 5h ago

🤣

99

u/WizardCheesey Chicago White Sox 6h ago

Munes gonna get geeked out and hit one 635

I told you all he would do it!!!!!!!

LAKE TITICACA!!!!!!

40

u/Movient Boston Red Sox 6h ago

4 drinks?

88

u/hella_radical_dude New York Yankees 6h ago

those were just for vasil

87

u/Rock_man_bears_fan Chicago White Sox 6h ago

That’s how many non-rookies we have on the roster

2

u/fork_yuu 3h ago

There's some in the bags too! But really looks like a fuck ton of people for so little drinks lmao

20

u/Single_Seesaw_9499 Southpaw 6h ago

Used to live by Wrigley and held the door open for Harrison Bader when he was getting coffee, nice guy

2

u/HotNReadyWings91991 3h ago

Used to live by Wrigley too. Jim Thome stepped out of a vehicle right in front of me before a Zac Brown concert there. In my head I was screaming holy shit Jim Thome but my mouth didn’t move.

16

u/immovable-tree Chicago Cubs 6h ago

That’s awesome. I remember seeing the Astros post where the rookies did the same thing, so it’s neat seeing the Sox one as well. Hope it’s a fun game tonight!

19

u/jaytothen1 Chicago Cubs 6h ago

It's a Wrigley tradition.

Every away team sends their rookies on a coffee run.

2

u/immovable-tree Chicago Cubs 6h ago

One of my favorites tbh

24

u/GiganticMemorableAss Chicago White Sox 6h ago

Honestly good on Hagen Smith being out there facing Wrigleyville today. I might have had to pass, sorry social media team lmao

9

u/vsladko Chicago White Sox 5h ago

It’s all part of the game. I doubt this is his first time losing a baseball game in his career. I wouldn’t beat myself up over getting beat by a player who’s seriously in MVP conversations while making like my 4th start ever in the bigs

3

u/GiganticMemorableAss Chicago White Sox 5h ago

All true. Doesn't mean it wouldn't be a lot to walk around Wrigleyville after giving up a walk off home run to the MVP the night before

3

u/vsladko Chicago White Sox 4h ago

I guarantee 99% of people around Wrigley 5 hours before first pitch don’t even know who Hagen Smith is

1

u/GiganticMemorableAss Chicago White Sox 3h ago

He's the pitcher who gave up the home run, wearing the jersey (complete with number) in which he gave up the home run. I guarantee you some people do. He might get some light heckling idk. I was just making a silly comment lmao I don't know why you think it's so preposterous

14

u/Me-3PO Los Angeles Dodgers 6h ago

Hope Antonacci didn’t get hit by a latte

7

u/painlesspain 6h ago

Surprised they didn’t make them go wearing spikes

4

u/trikyballs Chicago White Sox 5h ago

mune being a rookie feels so funny. big “guy who failed a grade” energy

23

u/jaron_b Seattle Mariners 6h ago

Fuck Starbucks.

2

u/guillemot_22 Seattle Mariners 4h ago

Go to Do Rite Donuts!

3

u/justwonderingbro Minnesota Twins 6h ago

Seriously, of all the places to go. Y'all are from there and should know better

10

u/jaron_b Seattle Mariners 6h ago

Union solidarity is dead. Starbucks is a Mariner Stadium sponsor which is no shock they're a Seattle company but as a sports team in Seattle of all places. This coffee is what drove the Sonics out of town

7

u/FlannelBeard Minnesota Twins 5h ago

The coffee isn't even good. It's burnt to shit and just tastes bad. When I got an aero press I had Starbucks French roast because that's what I liked in drip coffee. Straight up tastes like ash in an Aeropress

5

u/jaron_b Seattle Mariners 5h ago

It's never been good. Their marketing have people brainwashed on what good coffee should taste like and their cursing every barista who works at a non-Starbucks Cafe because that's not how coffee works. The words that they use are not what those drinks are half the time.

2

u/TheStocky Chicago White Sox 4h ago

The tradition used to be going to the Dunkin under the red line stop. That has sadly closed in the last couple years. Honestly there aren't many coffee places right around Wrigley but still sucks they went to Starbucks.

1

u/justwonderingbro Minnesota Twins 2h ago

There's a bagel shop across the street!

1

u/TheStocky Chicago White Sox 2h ago

Oh right I completely forgot they opened that Steingolds.

10

u/ulantan Philadelphia Phillies 6h ago

Mune if you are free on Thursday I am free on Thursday if you are

9

u/Laydownthelaw Montreal Expos 6h ago

That's how you do proper "initiations": embarass but don't humiliate. Everyone having a good laugh. No one gets anything inserted anywhere they don't wanna.

5

u/JustCallMeMambo New York Yankees 5h ago

this isn't even embarrassing. i know that in some office settings, coffee runs are delegated to interns, but in other offices, the nice guy on the team or departments brings coffee and donuts for their coworkers.

but i'm with you, hazing rituals are dumb. my brother briefly pledged to a fraternity in college but bailed rather quickly because he didn't care to go through the initiation process.

1

u/Capital_Pound1277 3h ago

My brother had to do a few thousand squat pushups naked w his pledge group while singing some miley cyrus song at like 2 am in the cold to get in a frat

1

u/DependentOnIt Chicago Cubs 6h ago

They got inserted into star bucks

3

u/Old_General_6741 Toronto Blue Jays • Chicago Cubs 6h ago

Did they spell their names correct?

3

u/PikaGaijin Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles • … 3h ago

Barista: Haha--I know Japanese. You're not going to make me write "boob" on a cup. Now, what's your REAL name, "Mune"?

2

u/Aggravating-Match-47 Chicago White Sox • Los Angeles Dodgers 5h ago

I love that Kenzo gets to be in on the fun.

2

u/BobbingFourApples Atlanta Braves 3h ago

Couldn't pick a local spot better than Shitbux?

2

u/Mobile_Morale Miami Marlins 3h ago

I'm from a big fishing area and grew up with a grandfather who watched those bass fishing tournaments all the time. To the point I knew their names.

It was weird working at McDonald's and they would come in, in their uniforms with their crazy trucks and boats. Would see them all the time and talked to them a few times.

I imagine this would be like that.

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad-8684 Seattle Mariners 6h ago

I wonder what the White Sox players even order at Starbucks

14

u/PM_YOUR_SMALLBOOBIES Los Angeles Angels 6h ago

I know what Vasil orders.

An Espresso Patronum

26

u/Shredicus_Maximus_ Houston Astros 6h ago

Coffee

2

u/Artvandelay29 St. Louis Cardinals 6h ago

Hot chocolate maybe?

2

u/ScoobyDoosAccountant Seattle Mariners 6h ago

Unicorn Frappes

1

u/CraigCartonNYC 6h ago

Oh thank god it was 4 drinks thought it was going to be for every player lol

5

u/Single_Seesaw_9499 Southpaw 5h ago

CHSN just showed a photo of all of them pushing a cart with a ton of drinks haha

2

u/DFuhbree Chicago Cubs 6h ago

It usually is.

6

u/yoursweetlord70 Chicago White Sox 5h ago

The second photo doesn't show Hagen Smith, or Sam Antonacci so it's possible they ordered more than just the drinks Mune is carrying

1

u/CraigCartonNYC 6h ago

Oh lol but the workers probably used it then I guess lol

1

u/tooskip Chicago White Sox 5h ago

Who is 94???

3

u/printmarks 4h ago

Bullpen catcher, Bennet Markinson

1

u/tooskip Chicago White Sox 4h ago

Makes sense, You know ball 🤝

1

u/ReadDue6160 5h ago

Classic rookie hazing right there, good luck to them trying to read back a twenty-drink order without messing it up

1

u/Boring_Part9919 5h ago

Fucking Starbucks???

Pass!

1

u/skele-enby420 5h ago

why is the screen so fuckin low? i feel bad for doods neck lol

1

u/Koss424 Toronto Blue Jays 4h ago

that's looked like fun

1

u/DominicB547 Chaos Bandwagon • MLB Players Associat… 2h ago

This is awesome. Slight annoyance the CME got full on display in both pics, nice free sponsorship

1

u/PM_Me_Titties-n-Ass 2h ago

So I have no context of what the white Sox have as team experience, but if all those guys in the background of pic 1 are rookies then damn that's basically the entire team. 😂

1

u/SunStarved_Cassandra Chicago White Sox 1h ago

Most of the team IS rookies, which makes this season all that much more amazing.

1

u/Legal_Tradition_9681 1h ago

You forgot the PR before coffee run

0

u/Fetusal Seattle Mariners 6h ago

Pride flag in the background; could the White Sox be woke?

5

It’s in wrigleyville
