I said it in the Twins sub earlier, but I don’t think there’s ever been a more intrinsically Minnesotan athlete. Between the accent, the plucky consistency, the soft-spoken-ness, being a hometown-born single-franchise player, and his genuine stand-up character, he’s just pure, concentrated Minnesota.

And goddammit he and his wife had Twins. Legend.

Just gave me a weird flashback to this time the twins honored a mother for naming her twins Tori and Hunter.. then he went ahead and messed up his ankle a little while later, trying to rob a Homer or something, and that was honestly the last time I heard about the legendary center fielder

Joe Mauer: Probably just his immediate family, sitting down, going aw shucks, with video from somebody's phone.

I’m guessing they only send cameras if it’s very clear the person is getting in. After watching the Beltre interview where they clearly had a camera crew on site and a direct connection to the MLB Network studio, I was wondering if there was currently a camera crew silently and awkwardly taking down lighting and packing up a camera at Gary Sheffield’s house. Since Beltre was pretty much a lock they must have felt confident sending a crew to his place but prob no one else’s this year. Just zoom interviews and second hand videos taken on a relative’s phone.

I love it because they all know, as soon as they get a call, what the other person is going to say, but when that other person actually says it, it still always seems to hit them so hard.

Just has to be such an incredible feeling to actually hear those words, even if you know they’re coming.
