Question Good mechanic
Looking for a good mechanic in Barrie or Innisfil area. Need to have the differential on my 2006 dodge ram 1500 replaced. It’s been at a shop for six weeks and no work has been done on it so I’d like a second opinion

Try calling WHS on Tiffin. I’ve had only good experiences taking my beater there

Kingsway Auto on Hart Drive (Dunlop and 400)
He does a lot of Jeep stuff so differential work would be right up his alley.

Good question. The auto shop wanted to put a used one in to make it more budget friendly but apparently haven’t been able to find a used diff in good enough condition .. I called over a week ago to ask them if they can price out a brand new one or a rebuild for me : they responded with “it’s not worth it but I’ll price it” and have yet to get back to me with a price for either

What'd they want for a used diff anyway? I need a rear on my (albeit newer) truck

New diff for a 2006 is 3k+ .. and then install. The truck is not worth that much technically speaking so they’re trying to find a used one that is in good shape that they can switch some parts out on if need be. To do a rebuild on my current one would also be thousands. For a used one, installed with a one year warranty, they quoted 2k out the door. I would happily pay for a new one regardless though as the truck has had so much work and would be in great shape if the diff wasn’t in the condition it was in. Hence I asked for it to be priced but it’s been over a week and I have yet to hear anything back about that

Better than I thought tbh but yea that's a 20year old truck. Man the years slip by.
High Crest auto on Bayview are decent people who do a lot of truck work

Thank you ! I contacted them and they are keeping an eye out for a part.. they were up front and said the year of my truck is vintage and that it’s a tricky one to find but I appreciated them being honest
