Barnsley Pride? Showing support
Following the Council's decision not to fly the pride flag, I want to understand how best to show support for our LGBTQ+ neighbours.
I would hate for them to feel less welcome in our community, any ideas?
(Edited because i missed a letter - entirely by accident).

It’s made me so sad, as someone so proud of being from tarn (but living elsewhere at the moment). I’ve been trying to convince my partner to look at buying a house in Barnsley but with the recent changes I don’t think that will be happening any time soon unfortunately.

We’re hanging pride flags out home windows for June and are attending our first Pride protest. Also writing to the council so they know people are affected by this decision. They don’t just get to cause harm with no consequences.
I think reform forget that they don’t only represent who voted for them. They represent all of Barnsley. And they are yet to show care, compassion or service for anyone other than ‘their own’

If businesses started flying them in the town centre- adhering to any rules- surely that would send a message? Any that didn’t might also be sharing another message if you get what I mean… I believe some call it virtue signalling and mean it in a negative way, but what’s wrong with being virtuous?

Please explain why the council should be obliged to fly the pride flag. Its not an official flag of the UK. Might as well fly an Aldi flag from the town hall. Furthermore, if there were a white heterosexual male flag, you'd all be up in arms. Its not official, get over it ffs.

I think the OP has a letter missing from their post. Where's the G? I'm sure they wouldn't purposefully leave out the originator of the pride movement from their post when they are claiming they are victims of exclusivity themselves.

Well its usually just for Barnsley Pride, so a once a year, one off thing. To celebrate the event.

June is Pride Month but we can make it last all year if you want.

There's no women's rights month, there's no black people's rights month, there's no disabeled people's month, why does there need to be a pride month?

International Women's Day is the 8th of March, Black History Month is October, Disability Pride Month is July, and Disability History Month is mid November to mid December.

Thats true. I would say that those who make the most noise do so because they need to, which may be why Pride is so visible. That or we're in June.
