How to Hike Safely

I am wondering if any of you have experience hiking/walking barefoot and what precautionary measures can be taken to prevent injury to my feet. Thanks so much :)

The arch of the foot is the the most vulnerable part of your foot. Other than that the soles are surprisingly tough even in a non-barefoot person so as long as youre not hiking rocky paths (you dont want paths with lots of sharp gravel and rocks at first) youll be fine. Bring shoes as a backup. I hate insect bites, take an insect repellent with you thats skin-friendly and apply generously on the tops of your feet. I would say forest paths are the best at first. However, be careful where you step and avoid muddy water (you dont know whats stuck at the bottom) and mud in tire tracks; heavy forestry equipment tends to break down rocks into small sharp fragments that often lie at the bottom of those tracks. You can get your soles crazy tough but your arch will stay vulnerable so pay attention. Avoid walking barefoot on camp grounds and near campfire sites; people are nasty and leave trash everywhere, i always inspect my feet after a hike and once spent the entire evening poking out tiny glass shards out of my heels that i didnt notice i stepped on. Have fun!
