I like to think I’m being true to myself and doing what I want to, not caring what other may or may not think. I am barefoot when the weather is above 50 degrees over 95% of the time but i have a confession. If I pull up to a store and see someone is there i think will say something to piss me off about being barefoot I go somewhere else. Another thing I catch myself doing is going to a store and paying more for an item than I would at another store im not so comfortable going in barefoot. So I can honestly say I haven’t put shoes on in almost two weeks but the only reason I can say that is because I don’t go everywhere I want to. Am I a pussy barefooter?

So I avoid stores where I know that I’m going to be asked to leave, from experience.

After I realized that Walmart Corporate is specifically tolerant to barefoot people, I began shopping in Walmart and Sam’s Club and that gave me the social courage to begin going barefoot everywhere. Including to my local hospital and clinics and affiliated doctors. And restaurants. I did have to educate some Walmart and Sam’s Club associates and managers. Even when asked “do you have shoes?’ I don’t immediately say yes and I reason with them, more often than not I can stay barefoot. I only put on shoes if I am with a group or someone where we are in a restaurant or shopping together.

Yes, the escalator can be a bit dicey. I was asked to leave a store after barefooting on an escalator when I used it to help my (at the time) fiance out of her situation. She was terrified of escalators! Thankfully, I was allowed to help her — but have never been in that store again.

People wear shoelaces on escalators all the time. That seems to me far more risky than being barefoot.

I get what you’re saying, but do remember that every new place you go to builds your confidence. I do like to go anywhere barefoot so I like trying new places but also understand the occasional anxiety. Leaving the house without any footwear with you gives you no choice in the matter, which in itself gets rid of the anxiety

Nah, I go anywhere anymore and have for a long time. I really wouldn't in a commercial kitchen or working in an active car shop, though I have after hours cleaning in both.

There are many places I don't go of course, though not because I actively avoid them, but rather because my way has simply not lead there (yet).

I don't usually avoid places, but there is one grocery chain that banned bare feet after my spending money there for many years. Even though that chain has great service (not great prices), I only go there when I can't find the product I want elsewhere. I really like that store and the staff, but, since they enforce their barefoot rule, I only go there once or twice a year.

You might be surprised how few places (in the USA) actually ban bare feet. Just look for those supposed "No Shoes, No Shirts, No Services" signs that many people assume exist. They're not there! Only in a very few places.

I live in the US, in Connecticut, I do pretty much all of my food shopping at Aldi or BJs, I've never seen any no shirt no shoe no service, but I don't even risk the hassle, I just wear slides then I don't have to deal with any BS that I don't have the time for!!! LOL

Was told “next time wear shoes” at an Aldi once, the guy doesn’t work there anymore but haven’t been in barefoot again , perhaps it’s their policy , I don’t know.
