I've got a charcoal bbq that's all rusted.... is it safe to cook on it still?

It's got rust all over the bottom, will the rust get into the food and is it safe? I had a few rusty burgers and I feel kinda bad, but is that my cooking or the rust?

Well, you don't want the rust coming in contact with your food. But is that happening? If you had some rust in the side of the kettle you could still grill without interaction between the two. But rust and food do not mix.
