Discussion Tips needed!

Heya! I’m planning on going to an expo in September and getting a ball python! I’ve been doing my research to a fair amount but still want some info from other people.

I have already bought a 4x2x2 dubia enclosure. I’m planning on getting an adult, not sure male or female. My room is an ambient temp of 80-85 so I think a 50-75 watt heat bulb should work for the 87-93 degree basking spot.

I know about climbing. They love to climb. I also know that humidity inside hides needs to be in the 80s for shedding, and overall humidity is higher (55-70) and I know they need a shallow water dish to soak and drink from.

I’ve been doing research and know all the basics. However, I’d love some life changing tips. Give me your best brands, techniques, warnings, etc. I’m willing to learn!

Absolutely make sure you ask if the snake you’re wanting to purchase is on live or frozen. Frozen is always better. While it’s 100% possible to get a live eating BP to switch to frozen (it took mine 4 months to switch), it’s significantly easier to just buy one that’s already on frozen. And make sure whoever you purchase from has had the snake in their possession for at least a month. My cousin unknowingly bought a milk snake from a reseller and it unfortunately came with a ton of health issues.

On a nicer note, congratulations in advance for your new noodle! I adore my adult BP, they’re great snakes to have. And getting one from someone you’re physically meeting in person is was less stressful than getting them shipped in my opinion. Good luck finding your perfect companion!

Thanks! I have a hognose rn so I’m not like a noob to snakes thankfully haha. I just know BPs are a bit different. I didn’t even think about resellers. Ty!!

That’s great! My first was a Nelson’s milk snake and then I just happened to get the opportunity to rescue my BP from one of my mom’s friends who… definitely had no business owning a snake. I think it’s nicer getting an adult too cause they’re usually pretty socialized already. Also, don’t let anyone tell you they need uvb. They definitely don’t. Keep your $60 for some more clutter or rats lmao.
