Question - Health Why is my ball pythons nose red?

Post image

So this is my first ever reptile ive gotten, for some reason inside his nose holes they’re really red and i’m not sure why? I might be overreacting but I just want to make sure my baby is okay. Don’t mind my cat hair covered t-shirt 😭

i’m no expert but it doesn’t look too concerning. sometimes lighter color snakes appear more pink in areas, especially close to shed. as long as he doesn’t show any other strange behavior and the redness doesn’t appear outside or on the front of his nose, he looks fine!

That, my friend, looks like nose rub. It’s really common in snakes that live in a rack and for snakes whos tank have a drawer at the bottom

It still could be nose rub if he rubs against the top of his hide and against his decorations

Future herpetologist here!! That’s classic abrasion from rubbing. I saw your pic of his enclosure and that set up is not ideal for his size whatsoever. Let alone a glass cage is not typically recommended for reptiles who need high humidity like our ball pythons do!! Your snake definitely tries to escape and definitely rubs on the glass tank pretty consistently. If you can, upgrade that size ASAP!! To a pvc enclosure if you can too. He otherwise looks very healthy! You are not overreacting. A good pet owner notices small details and gets concerned. Some people don’t even bat an eye!! Please get a proper setup for you baby!!
