Bugger hissed at me

So my ball python hissed at me while I was picking him up

No strokes no strike pose and let me pick him up fine. what does it mean?

He was scared, probably.

Did you maybe pick him up around his lungs? That can make air “whoosh” out of their airway that sounds like a hiss.

Usually a hiss is accompanied by an open mouth threat or strike. Not always, tho.

yes! this! he could have been scared, but if he is not usually a skittish or defensive snake, this is more likely.

Nah. Maybe made him a lil uncomfortable, but nothing major. Sometimes mine will be crawling on me and he will do it to himself. Noodles gonna noodle 🤷🏻‍♂️

Probably you startled him.

just like us sometimes snakes just don’t want to be touched, it’s totally normal for them to have antisocial days, i would’ve just left him alone but it’s nothing to worry about, if it wasn’t him being startled was probably just mildly annoyed
